Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1051)

Hello Everyone!

Plenty of hiking, Dark muscadines, Vine production versus grape production & Writing rightly at night!

The night is stretching on here and I never wrote anything in this entry for the day... so here I am... trying to keep my routine consistent even if it requires pushing through a little fatigue to spell out my ponderous thoughts. Not that my thoughts are especially 'ponderous' at the moment but I like that saying (and use it whenever I can) for some odd reason that I have never fully understood.

Once again the day was not all that eventful or remarkable aside from finally getting in some hiking. Aside from an early jaunt around the main loop I did not make all that many rounds of the place... but I did manage to squeeze in two other hikes during the cooler part of the afternoon.

During those hikes I took a lot more time to look around at the state of things and was not at all surprised to see that all the persimmons have dropped from the trees... and been devoured by the wildlife in short order. As I have mentioned numerous times throughout this year... those late cold snaps during the spring really hindered how much fruit there was this year.

Anyways, a while back I remarked on finding another place where passion flower vines grow and how there were some grapes nearby. Well, those grapes are now mostly ripe and they are the largest grapes that I have yet to see on the property. They look like some kind of thin skinned muscadine but I have yet to wade through the dense brush in that area to retrieve any of them... or look for more passion fruit.

Here in a few more days I want to make it back over to that grape patch and try to snag a few of the ripe ones before the critters get them. If they look and taste like I hope that they do... I am going to plant the seeds in some flower pots and see what happens. Getting a strain of grape vines that produces large fruit in actual bunches of more than three... unlike the other vines around here... would be pretty sweet!

While I am on the subject of grapes I gotta admit that my current endeavors of terracing them have produced a heck of a lot of healthy vines... which is good for making dream catchers... but they have been quite underwhelming in regards to fruit production. Most likely they just do not get enough sun in that area... so what I am considering to do... is to raise their arbors to a higher position in the hopes of them getting more sunlight.

Okay, I trailed off there in the middle of writing and best get back to it before I get sucked into tinkering on one of my coding projects and fail to get this entry wrapped up, edited and posted. That routine 'in and of itself' has been a pleasant one to get back into and I must admit I have plenty of anxiety over mucking it up at this point.

All of which, makes me think back to when I first began making these entries and first starting to do all this 'sharing my life' stuff... and well... it has assuredly been a journey... but my point is... it has gotten tremendously easier. The hardest part anymore seems to be remembering to put on my reading glasses when I begin the editing so that I am less inclined to miss those pesky errors!

On a serious note though, I have come to the conclusion that the more that I 'relax my mind' about the 'doing of the process' the less friction I seem to encounter along the way of doing it! There is always that small hurdle of 'beginning to write' each day but once that is overcome... the actual writing (and albeit the editing) goes rather smoothly.

Well, on that note... I hope that everyone is doing good and has a nice day/night.

I have no idea what this flower is but it has been blooming lately with all these cool looking flowers.

Thanks for reading!

IDK what the flower is either. Emily is a beautiful chicken. You can do the grapevines the same way you did the passion fruit to root them, or just take several clippings and stick them in a pot, sit it in a part shady spot, and water it every day, it should root. This is faster than growing them from seeds.

Oh that is really good to know about rooting the grapevines. I have never had much luck growing them from seed so having an alternative method is nice.

Yea, when we cut them from growing over our areca palms we have to be careful and not leave any on the ground because they will root by just laying there. It might be because we have sprinklers that run every day, but still, they are easy to root.
