Dracula Untold
ist ein Horror- und Fantasy-Film aus dem Jahr 2014. Wieder einmal mehr wird eine Geschichte erzählt, wie es dazu kam daß Fürst Dracula zu einem Vampir wurde, die in Anlehnung an den historischen Fürst Vlad III. Drăculea. Die Story handelt im 15. Jahrhundert, als die Osmanen einen Teil des Balkans erobert und dem Osmanischen Reich angegliedert haben. Der Sultan plant die Invasion Europas und fordert von Fürst Vlad tausend Kinder, die militärisch erzogen werden sollen, darunter auch Vlads Sohn. Fürst Vlad entscheidet sich gegen den Sultan und sucht die Hilfe eines mächtigen Wesens gegen die Osmanen, das dazu verdammt ist im Gebirge in einer Höhle zu leben und sich von Blut zu ernähren, anscheinend ein uralter Vampir.
Das unheimliche und uralte Wesen schlägt Vlad einen Handel vor: Dieser soll das Blut des alten Vampirs trinken und so seine Kräfte bekommen und damit die Osmanen bekämpfen. Sollte es Vlad schaffen drei Tage lang seinem Blutdurst zu widerstehen, wird er wieder seine Kräfte verlieren und alles ist beim Alten. Ansonsten, wenn Vlad auch nur einen Tropfen Blut trinkt, wird es für alle Ewigkeiten als Vampir sein Dasein fristen müssen. Es beginnt ein dreitägiger Kampf gegen die Osmanen, in denen es Vlad zunehmend schwer fällt seine Gier nach Blut unter Kontrolle zu bekommen.
Der Film hinterlässt einen mit gemischten Gefühlen. Einerseits weiß die sehr gelungene Optik des Films zu überzeugen. Andererseits artet die Handlung in exzessive Gewaltorgien aus. Irgendwie hat sich dieser Film nicht vollends entfaltet. Es reicht aber für einen Daumen nach oben und eine Empfehlung für einen Popcorn-Filmabend.
