China Wiretaps Americans in ‘Worst Hack in Our Nation’s History’
"this particular breach of U.S. equipment was first reported in early October by the Wall Street Journal. But Sen. Mark Warner, a Democrat from Virginia, spoke with the Washington Post and New York Times this week to warn the public that this is so much worse than we initially thought, dubbing it “the worst telecom hack in our nation’s history.”"
--- Well, I'm not sure about that. There have been other hacks into infrastructure which to me seem to have potentially greater consequences. Except for this part:
"Incredibly, Warner says the hackers are still inside the U.S. system and there’s no obvious way to get them out that doesn’t involve physically replacing old equipment"
--- Hmm...

China-linked hackers target Linux systems with new spying malware
" WolfsBane is a Linux equivalent of Gelsemium’s backdoor for Windows, named Gelsevirine. FireWood, on the other hand, is similar to the backdoor named Project Wood, which was previously used against Windows systems. While WolfsBane is the group’s custom tool, FireWood may be shared among multiple China-aligned state hackers, researchers suggested.
The goal of the backdoors, along with other tools used in this campaign, is cyberespionage. They are designed to target sensitive data such as system information, user credentials, and specific files and directories, while evading detection. "
--- Not much info about what to look for or which software to use to identify the malware.
EU, China close to agreement over EV import tariffs, leading MEP says
""We are close to an agreement: China could commit to offering e-cars in the EU at a minimum price," Bernd Lange told n-tv, without elaborating. "This would eliminate the distortion of competition through unfair subsidies, which is why the tariffs were originally introduced.""
--- Bullshit. A minimum price would only mean that they make a bigger profit per car. The cars would still be cheaper than European competitors. Maybe they would sell fewer cars, but that would be more than offset by the higher profit margin.
The EU previously refused such a proposition by China. Why would they consider it now? Blackmail perhaps: China widens EU dairy probe to more subsidy programmes
Will China step up if Trump takes a step back on climate change?
"Looming over it all was the prospect of US president-elect Donald Trump withdrawing the US from the COP process when he takes office for a second time. He has called climate action a “scam” and, at his victory celebration in West Palm Beach earlier this month, vowed to boost US oil production beyond its current record levels, saying, “We have more liquid gold than any country in the world”.
But there was one positive: China.
“It's the only bright spot in all of this is,” the chief negotiator told me. Not only was its negotiating style markedly different to previous years, but he also observed that, as he puts it, “China could be stepping forward.”"
--- More bullshit. Looks like a concerted action, nonsense articles with this theme are popping up all over the place. Either China paid a number of journalists for this propaganda or climate journalists are particularly gullible.
"Traditionally, China has released minimal information about its climate policies and plans, so it came as a surprise when, for the first time, officials said they have paid developing countries more than $24 billion for climate action since 2016."
--- If you trust the CCP, you are not much of a journalist.

--- China Uncensored features the usual weekend news variety:
