I want to get online. I NEED... a COMPUTER!

A while back I was all juiced up when I upgraded my Ancient Macbook Pro Laptop hard drive to 1 terabyte because I was always running out of space. The upgrade involved some weird adapter thing, in order to make a 'regular' M2/sata drive work with the mac book. I had to end up cutting away a bit of the macbooks plastic speaker housing to get the adapter to fit properly but to my huge amazement, it worked and for a while I had an awesome extra 500gb of hard drive space to play with.

That was basically up until two days ago until my computer crashed, which isn't out of the ordinary. But after force-rebooting the computer it came back with a Question mark inside a folder icon, which turns out there is no boot disk. This was the first time I ever saw that and after attempting some recovery options it was obvious that the computer wasn't working the way it should.

I thought maybe it was a case of something with my hack job coming loose inside so I opened it up. I had to drill open the aluminum case because the last screw didn't want to come out. I guess loctite wasn't such a great idea putting it back together the previous time, I thought I was doing an 'extra good' job. Once it was actually open, I inspected my prior handiwork and it really looked pretty solid and like everything should still be working as it was. I tried removing and putting it back but it wasn't working. As a last resort, I put the old original hard disk back in and to my semi-amazement, it started back up.

Thankfully I backed up my most important files but I did basically lose everything on that hard disk for like the past 10 months, I don't think anybody likes that feeling of losing things even if they are just 'digital' files. I will still try and do some recovery on that disk but it doesn't seem to be very likely.

At the very least I guess I have a new computer to look forward to soon enough if I can snag one, something with some performance but something used and in my budget. I have been wishing for an upgrade for a while now, this one is over a decade old at this point and certainly a bit of a performance enhancement would be valuable as well. Not to mention it seems like this one is getting increasingly unwieldy, not just with it crashing but of course software updates don't really work that well on such an ancient machine and sometimes it's good to have those.

I even had a bunch of photos from this upgrade process, perhaps I will continue this post at a later date but my catalog information is stuff that got lost on that hard disk and I'm not going to bother messing around trying to rebuild that until I know I am on a solid workspace. It's likely though I will continue my cross Canada trekking series though, it's about time to finally wrap that up 😂

In summation, the loss of my previous hard drive left me a bit shook and while I am not entirely... computerless it's become super apparent it's time for a new one, it's time for a lot of new stuff but that's a story for another day.
