[ESP/ING] Como es mi laboratorio de Prótesis Dental:

Actualmente estoy cursando mi tercer año en la profesión de Técnico de Prótesis Dental, donde realizo variedad de tipos de prótesis para los diferentes desdentados en los pacientes. En este tercer año a los estudiantes se les enseña lo que se llama “Educación en el Trabajo”, que básicamente es preparar a los estudiantes para la vida laboral y las actividades y funcionamientos dentro de los laboratorios una vez que ya seamos profesionales graduados.

Currently, I am in my third year studying to become a Dental Prosthesis Technician, where I make a variety of prostheses for different types of edentulous patients. In this third year, students are taught what is called "Work Education," which basically prepares us for the professional life and the activities and operations within laboratories once we are graduated professionals.

Debemos conocer todo el procedimiento, de principio a fin, para hacer una prótesis; con los diferentes pasos que deben seguir tanto el técnico como el especialista (el dentista). Tenemos que saber cómo trabajar en conjunto entre todos los laboratoristas, ya que unos pueden hacer un procedimiento con el que otro va a tener que trabajar más adelante, y es necesario hacerlo bien para no perjudicar el trabajo de otra persona ni el siguiente paso de confección.

We must understand the entire procedure, from start to finish, to make a prosthesis; with the different steps that both the technician and the specialist (the dentist) must follow. We need to know how to work together among all the lab technicians, as one may perform a procedure that another will have to work with later on, and it is necessary to do it well in order not to hinder the work of another person or the next fabrication step.

Entre los pasos técnicos que ya he realizado he hecho lo que en la especialidad se conoce como: vaciado de la impresión, confección de las cubetas individuales, confección de los rodetes, montaje de dientes, rebajado del modelo. Aún no he podido realizar un caso completo de principio a fin porque son muchos pasos en total para confeccionar una sola prótesis, y como se trabaja en conjunto con el resto de personal estudiantil y profesional pues diferentes personas trabajan en un mismo caso para agilizar el proceso.

Among the technical steps I have already completed, I have done what is known in the specialty as: pouring the impression, making individual trays, making the rims, setting teeth, and trimming the model. I have not yet been able to complete a full case from start to finish because there are many steps in total to make a single prosthesis, and since we work together with the rest of the student and professional staff, different people work on the same case to expedite the process.

Sin embargo lo que he realizado yo junto con los demás estudiantes que cursan conmigo son casos reales, no solo se quedan de modelo de prácticas sino que también salen al mundo a cumplir con su función satisfactoriamente para el paciente.

However, what I have done along with the other students who study with me are real cases; they are not just practice models but also go out into the world to fulfill their function satisfactorily for the patient.

El laboratorio es muy espacioso, hay muchas mesas de trabajo aunque los trabajadores de aquí no llegan a ocuparlas todas, pero sigue siendo necesaria la disponibilidad del espacio útil para que cada año los diferentes números de estudiantes tengan donde trabajar.

The laboratory is very spacious, with many workbenches, although the workers here do not manage to occupy all of them. Nevertheless, the availability of space is still necessary so that each year the different numbers of students have a place to work.

El instrumental y la maquinaria no dejan de ser impresionante para alguien que no está acostumbrado, aunque los útiles sean hasta pequeños. Tenemos muflas, articuladores para los montajes de dientes, prensas de presión, instrumental dental, pulidoras, limas, vibradores, máquinas para polimerizar, mecheros de gas y de alcohol, y hasta un microondas, que a veces se usa para polimerizar y otras veces se usa para calentar el almuerzo.

The equipment and machinery remain impressive for someone who is not accustomed, even though the tools may be small. We have furnaces, articulators for tooth setups, pressure presses, dental instruments, polishers, files, vibrators, polymerization machines, gas and alcohol burners, and even a microwave, which is sometimes used for polymerization and other times used for heating lunch.

Cuando yo empecé a estudiar esta profesión cada vez que oía hablar del laboratorio donde se trabajaba me imaginaba un lugar hermético y cerrado con luz artificial, una imagen bastante estereotipada por la televisión. En la vida real existe muchos tipos de laboratorios, y el ambiente puede ser totalmente diferente. Aquí hay un ambiente muy bonito no solo por el lugar, que de hecho esta bañado por luz natural, muy iluminado gracias a una pared que está llena de ventanas de principio a fin, sino también por el ambiente que hay entre las personas.

When I started studying this profession, every time I heard about the laboratory where work was done, I imagined a hermetic and closed place with artificial light, a quite stereotyped image from television. In real life, there are many types of laboratories, and the environment can be completely different. Here, there is a very nice atmosphere not only because of the place, which is indeed bathed in natural light, very illuminated thanks to a wall that is full of windows from end to end, but also because of the atmosphere among the people.

Aquí todo el mundo se conoce y mantienen una buena relación entre sí, y es necesario también para los propios resultados, porque no solo hablamos de conocerse de forma personal sino también profesional Conocer el trabajo de cada uno, con sus puntos flujos y sus puntos fuertes, y así formar una cadena sólida donde cada uno haga lo mejor que pueda y, aunque no quede del todo bien, arreglarlo entre los demás buscando el mejor resultado final. Se podría decir que somos una pequeña comunidad, o hasta incluso, una pequeña familia, y creo que eso es lo que más me gusta de este pedacito de mi vida.

Here, everyone knows each other and maintains a good relationship, and it is also necessary for the results themselves because we are not only talking about knowing each other personally but also professionally. Understanding each other's work, with its strengths and weaknesses, and thus forming a solid chain where everyone does their best and, even if it doesn't turn out perfectly, fixing it among ourselves to achieve the best final result. It could be said that we are a small community, or even a small family, and I think that is what I like the most about this little piece of my life.
