Trump's Fascist Speech

Joe Biden's speech on the threat to democracy coming from MAGA Republicans is criticized by MAGA Republicans and right wing media as "fascist." This is as laughable as it is predictable; they call Anti-fascists, Black Lives Matter, mainstream media, milk-toast Democrats, anyone and anything opposed to their narrow and strictly hierarchical view on politics "fascist."

But in the meantime they cheer when a true fascist speaks. I've watched the entire address by Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, his first since his winter home at Mar-a-Lago was raided by the FBI. The rally was in support of candidates Doug Mastriano and Mehmet (Dr.) Oz, both of whom are rabid election deniers. Trump and the candidates he endorses are a threat to democracy, just like Joe Biden explained in a much shorter speech one week earlier, because they believe in only two possible election outcomes: they win or they were cheated. And they say so in advance: Trump primed his followers into believing his election lies by telling them months in advance that mail-in ballots would be used to rig the elections when in truth mail-in ballots have been used for decades and they were the logical option during the pandemic when many voters believed it unsafe to go out. Also predicted was the early lead for Trump, as in-person votes would be counted first, and most mail-in votes would be from Democrats. It was all very predictable and logical, but somehow the MAGA portion of the electorate fail to see it and rather believe the lies of their Great Leader whose 60-plus lawsuits for election fraud were all dismissed due to lack of evidence.

They are a threat to democracy, and Trump proved this once again during this rally. While three quarters of his speech was spent on lamenting and crying about his lost election, the FBI raid and demonizing (literally) the "socialists, Marxists, communists and authoritarians" in the Democratic Party, much to the delight of his audience, he actually had some policy proposals. Not that they were good proposals. For example, he proposed serving the death penalty for drug dealers, alongside "swift justice" for these criminals. Of course he did so after accusing the "blue states" of being too soft on crime and letting the crime statistics rise to the heavens. In fact, the red states are by far the more crime-ridden ones when looked at by a per capita ratio. Of course there's more crime in states with more people, but as a percentage of the population the much less densely populated rural red states have far more crime. In fact, almost everything Trump said during the rally was a blatant lie, but his audience gobbled it up like it was the sweetest candy imaginable. Scary.

Trump again talked about his "perfect phone-calls," including the ones to state legislators asking them to "find more votes" for him to win the elections. Amazing. In an unprecedented feat of double-think and cognitive dissonance he went on a rant about how much he admires the authoritarian Xi Jinping of China. And Putin of Russia. He likes authoritarians because he is an authoritarian himself; hence the proposed swift justice for drug dealers, who we all know will turn out to be mostly black even if an equal number of white drug dealers exist.
