Markey Friday in Kyiv today
Usually, I prefer farmers market. Much has changed since the war began in Ukraine. Despite this, we continue to live and function. Except for those will never answer the phone again...
I really enjoyed the nearby farmer's market, which I visited every Saturday. Now it's closed. Currently, farmers' markets operate in Kyiv on weekdays, and for some reason they are closed on weekends. One person needs very little food, but it is a good opportunity to leave home, see the sky, people and the city.
I wish I could show you better photos. You might remember I love photography. But now no one walks the streets with a camera. And even taking pictures with your phone is not always a good idea.
So I got in the car and drove to a nearby market. Two Russian missiles hit near it last night. This is not the first time, but I hoped it it open.
This is a new damage after yesterday's attack.
And this is "old".
Surprisingly, dairy pavilion is opened, though sellers aren't many. They said they are here only on Fridays. I bought cottage cheese.
Every week there are a little more sellers. Some shops are starting restoration, some have simply closed the broken openings, and some have remained as they are.
This market is usually very crowded. Lots of sellers and buyers and you can find anything. But for two months now, I've learnt that I will not find everything from n my list in the supermarket or in the market. A week ago I was looking for mushrooms, visited several supermarkets and this market, but never found them. Today one seller had them. There was also one seller who sold sunflower seeds and homemade sunflower oil. And there was an old lady who sold honey.
Not only the assortment has changed. Usually at the beginning of spring, vegetables and greenery are the most expensive, and every week they are little cheaper. Sometimes they rise in price a little just before the holiday, for example, before Easter. Now the prices are going up all the time. Vegetables have become more expensive than they were a week ago.
And this is how cosmetics and health store looks. To be honest, this is the worst case, as others has more goods. But.. it's sad anyway.
More and more people are returning home. There are a lot of traffic jams on the highways, for many reasons. Some sections are still under repair after the destruction caused by russian occupiers. The city has now a shortage of fuel and very long queues at gas stations, although gasoline prices have also risen.
It was nice to see sellers of flowers and seedlings today. You have probably seen a photo of a farmer who sows a field in a bulletproof vest. We understand that it will not end tomorrow, and that things can get worse any moment. But even when I'm upset, I believe that everything will be fine in Ukraine. I didn't doubt it for a second. Because we are a strong and ancient nation. And this is the land of our ancestors. And it's spring, and the grass is green again, and the birds sing, even when air raid sirens, and the scent of cherry blossoms in the air.
What else I could miss? A flower 🌺 Always a flower...
Cheers,
@zirochka

.This is heartbreaking. I just cannot imagine, but it's also somewhat warming to see the flowers at the end. There must be something positive after all this is done.
I really hope this horrible nightmare will end soon and you could come back to take photos like before. It's heartbreaking, really, and I'm sorry to no have the right words to express my closeness to you in English. We all hope in the best for you ❤️
I believe that all our many prayers will bring us peace one day. Good people are more.
By the way, about taking photos. Do they fix your camera?
@zirochka , I'm also concerned about the war ,yes before the war the market would be full of traders and buyers. Hope the war ends quickly, you don't go to out of town to a void war. Thank you.

.It is hearthbreaking to hear all this info. I also remember what I lived in '89, althought it was not the same. Our hostilities lasted only for 1-2 weeks.
🥺
I'm glad to see that, despite the difficulties, you guys are still going strong. Our prayers are with you, in the hopes that all will be resolved soon so that people can return to their normal lives.
Thank you!

Який великий контраст між фотографіями міста та красою природи із останіх фото. Тримаймось, все буде Україна.
It takes a lot of courage to live under the war and to try live a normal life not knowing what may happen the next day. Not giving up sends out a very strong message to everyone around the world to show that you are not so easily to be taken down.
As always, take care ❤️💙💛

It is great to see that despite the horrendous situation the country is experiencing, people try to make a normal life. Hope peace comes soon to Ukraine.
Thank you
Oh, my heart. It breaks as I watch people walking about their beautiful city. The market should be full at this time of year, the beauty of the plants overflowing. I think of you and look at you! Putting in a #MarketFriday post. I am so comforted by your words... Everything will be okay. I feel like that too, but I am on the other side of the fence.
Look at that cosmetics store! Can you imagine pouring your entire life and savings into one of these stores and seeing this? Will they be able to make it be once again? I have to believe they will. I have to believe there is a God that is watching over you and the people of Ukraine.
It is not at all what I remember, but, the signs I see give me hope. The strength of the flowers pushed out to become beautiful once again. It gives me hope and it gives me strength to be there for any of you.
I hope Nick is doing fine, we know Nat will just smile her amazing smile through it all. You have GOT to love a girl like that! She looks so much like you and perhaps if I remember correctly, she and you are like two peas in a pod. I love that about you and her. Of course, I remember correctly, who could forget.
I hope you got all the food you need for this week. A little more protein. xoxo Love to you, my friend. Так гарно. Такий сміливий. Любов тобі і Ніку.
I believe the life in Kyiv is coming back to normal, but you also showed us some damages in your images. It is indeed very sad for people who live on small businesses and feed many others in their families.
Life will be normal but it is heartbreaking that why such thing occurs. Best wishes for the future.
I am really happy to see the market and how people are trying to live and doing business there. Even I saw yesterday that in front of Kharkiv Opera house, flowers were planted which is amazing. I really feel sad when I read devastating news about our cities and always think about you. Infact, one of my friend's house damaged because of the shelling. Her glasses broke down and one wall damaged a bit but it can be fixed. Many people who fleed before returning to Kharkiv decided to contribute.
By the way, I am little bit sad seeing my favourite shop Eva destroyed. I hope you are safe and healthy. When this will be over, we should meet for sure...
Yes, they say that prices will not rise. But the prices in the bazaars and shops say otherwise.
It is a pity that when some are trying to help, others are trying to make money on the same as themselves.
Very often I hear that people take humanitarian aid and then resell it for exorbitant prices. It's upsetting. but I am glad that the authorities paid attention to this and decided to issue humanitarian aid for the lists in the database.
We hope and pray that this will end soon.
Greetings from Zaporozhye!
Hold on!
Слава Україні! Слава нашим захисникам!
Тримайтесь, Запоріжжя! Ми з вами 💙💛
Can't even imagine the trouble you as a country are going through.. wish you all the strength and support. Prayers to all the soldiers in the fight.
