SATURDAY EXPERIENCE - Heritage Day 2022 - 4x Hive people get together, braai, make good food and make music!

Good day to all my Hive friends! Zak Ludick from South Africa with another weekender post!

On Saturday it was Braaiday... or Heritage Day as it is called all over South Africa. Yes well... I know that we do braai frequently, but this one is almost MANDATORY braai day! Like "wys jou vleis" type of thing. You need to come out and show some spirit and do your utmost!

With @clairemobey having been sick recently we did not have the energy to do a massive event with lots of people and the boys had sleepovers organized, so it was just to be myself, @clairemobey, @aimeludick and @jasperdick.

Yes! The top three HP accounts on the weekly Mobey-Ludick Household post. Not the greatest amount of HP at a braai that I have had but it is great that I can have these social events and they are like Hive events!

So Jasper and Claire got to rehearse and chat about what their set will be at the Cottage Club in October (only 2 weeks away).

With a bottle of cough syrup nearby, Claire did her best to do the first bit of singing she had managed to do in 3 weeks or more.

Meanwhile I set out to stab some chicken pieces and created my own marinade that turned out just HEAVENLY! I will be doing a food post just about that! Stay tuned!

I then set out to make my own garlic bread from a french loaf. I can totally make a foodie post about this part as well! Hahahahaha! And then this happened...

The musicians came along, plugged in and began to play before my food preparation station!

It was a lot of fun. I joined in from the sidelines and so I got roped in to doing a video with Jasper, Claire and Aime for the Hive Open Mic. Watch @jasperdick's feed for THAT post! Hahahaha!

@aimeludick was keen on joining us with the singing.

The fire was burning merrily outside so we had chance to do our rehearsals and then record the video.

Music video made I went outside and got to the braaing! On the left we have so pre-spiced Pork Chops, then some Beef Sausage (wors), above that are the chicken thighs with their marinade on, then Lamb riblets and finally my garlic bread.

I had plenty chance on a hot but even heat grille to baste my chicken many times as I braaied them.

And when I was done with the braai we served up along with a potato salad that @aimeludick helped @clairemobey with. Yes this is WAY too much food for the 4 of us but when you cater for a braai you never undercater, leftovers are acceptable.

I had actually forgotten that @merenludick and @matthew-williams would not be there that night and had counted on them being there when planning the food.

Just like the chicken, the garlic bread came out really well. Butter nice and melted and soft in the middle, while the outside was nice and crunchy!

Thus when we were done there was enough for breakfast the next day as well as enough meat to debone and make a stir-fry. So basically it was likt 3 meals worth of food and I had a very generous portion!

The beautiful @clairemobey does not eat when the food is ready. I just put some away for her as she goes to sleep after eating. If she eats too soon, she would go crash while we still have people over. lol!

We concluded out evening, well satisfied and plenty content created for Hive haha. We had such an awesome time. Thank you @jasperdick, @clairemobey and @aimeludick for making this a truly wonderful Heritage Day event!
