Maledictus Terra Book 2: Sanguifex Part 45
Introduction
Welcome back to Maledicturs Terra. This is a Chain Story between myself and @lex-zaiya, meaning that we each write the parts alternatively.

Part 45
Adrian looked around at the disparate questing party. A light flared up on his right index finger and he held it before him, lining it up with his eye and squinting.
Pair by pair, and group by group he checked that each one of the party would be covered by the castings of his spell. He looked at Derric with the spell in hand, the wild prince was in wolf form. The aura that he perceived around the wolf was different than those around the assembled heroes. He needed to focus in on the hue and pattern of it. He sighed.
It was inconclusive. There was no way of knowing what would happen. “Derric. I do not know if you will be able to follow at all. Or if you will be harmed or if you would be put in the same place as us. I really have no idea of what might happen.”
I accept the risks Adrian. I will not leave you and Magna.
“Understood.” Adrian replied.
“Wait!” Magna cried out. “What do you mean he might be harmed or not put in the same place as us?”
Adrian shrugged his shoulders. “I really do not know what is going to happen. It is not that it is likely, it is just unknown and it cannot be guessed.” He indicated at the wolf. “He has decided that it is worth the risk. Have you?”
Magna was about to reply sharply but then stopped in her tracks. He had a point. Though Derric was willing to risk himself here for Magna, was she willing to let him take that risk? It was that moment where the twins were once again in one another’s heads. She knew then that she loved Derric. It was not a mistake and her twin kept her honest about it. She would not be able to bear his loss or be very happy if something had happened to him.
She shook her head. She walked over to the wolf prince and knelt before him. “I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
Nothing is going to happen to me. I will be fine.
“You don’t know that!” She said sternly. “What if it does? What if you die? Then your Kingdom is without and heir… then I am without you.” She hung her head and sat back on her legs.
The wolf laid his head on her lap. And what would I do if you go without me and something happens to you and I am not there to help? We are in the same situation Magna. Life is not without risks. There is also a chance that nothing happens to me.
She nodded and the two of them got up again. “Alright. Let’s do it.”
Adrian nodded. “Are we all ready and packed? I would suggest you all know where your weapons are. We have no idea how soon we may need to defend ourselves.”
“That’s good thinking.” King Sebastian approved. He lifted his sword a few inches out of its scabbard and let it drop again. “The boy might be full of magic, but he also shows a shocking amount of common sense.”
Mortis stared at the arrogant King. “You really don’t know when to quit your remarks do you?”
Sebastian shrugged. “I am not so often questioned. I am a King!”
“Even a King needs to know the limits of courtesy,” Mortis said softly. “When I was King, I found that out the hard way. Better learn that early or it might come to haunt you when you really don’t need it to.”
Sebastian first looked angry and then appalled. He closed his mouth and said nothing, frowning at the revenant.
“Right. Everyone quiet now.” Adrian said. “I need to do this in silence. When I give the signal, walk forward to the portal.”
