Cape Town, Waterfront - Watershed 2024

Hello everyone, Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is the Water Shed!

The Water Shed is a building in the V&A Waterfront that has been there for a very long time. When I was a child this place was just a warehouse with the floor filled and covered in fleamarket stalls.

A lot of what they sold then is still sold here: Curios, tourist trinkets, jewellery, things to eat, clothing, etc

But it is massively modernized now, as you can see.

I will try put some labels under the photos as I go along, but I might not caption them all... let's see how I do!

Above we see the now modernized entrance.

Just outside there are two little trailer stalls that stay there most of the time really. The one on the right called "Stokkiesdraai" sells biltong and droewors. Which is an amazing thing to eat if you like meat!

The other place has snacks and sweets.

The Watershed now has a 2nd level and that level is more offices. Studio 17 is art and business and thus this design element here. I do go up there further down.

Some lineshops. Some of them the name might not tell us what goes on in there but luckily the shopfront shows us plenty.

An anti-poaching statue. There aren't rhinos anywhere near Cape Town but the idea is raise awareness and funds.

Artisan Workshops. I did not pursue this just yet... I did see someone painting on a canvas in there...

Neckaces and other jewellery.

Another shopfront.

And more shops. Generally speaking... tourist prices not local prices here...

Even the benches are artsy here...

As well as the decor to give the open space some colour and shape.

Cooked does coffee, pies, pastries, that kind of thing.

Looks like a lot of stylish type of clothing stores for those who can afford it.

Its-a-me! Got to show that I was here. Hehe.

More Art Stairs with built in stairs for those who can work of their laps and use the Free Wifi.

This area the shops are more like stalls. Massive variety.

More stalls.

Some stalls do clothing.

You can also find jewelry and art.

More jewelry... where is the person who works here??

There should be something here for everyone to be able to pick up something to take back home or to find a gift.

I... have no idea what this is... Are those dresses or aprons? I really cannot tell...

Another little coffee-shop. Health and wellness type food here.

And some more line shops...

That's the "market" of stalls behind me.

So now I go upstairs. This looked like a little art museum. With sculptures decorating the hallway.

This one is made of bronze.

Across the way... on the left another little coffee shop and at the top, some more offices.

Here we can see what Workshop17 is all about... Interesting.

There are 3 large holes to the lower lever to give that space a feeling of headroom. The top level also has a lot of communal spaces and places to sit.

There is a closer picture of the Coffee Shop and the tables that you might occupy.

I suppose sitting up here with a laptop to do work might be nice. You get to hear a hustle and bustle nearby without being directly in it.

Some more shots looking down into this atrium space...

And sometimes directly into some of the shops...

I came here during the week when I had a gap off a nearby work site (As you might notice, I was wearing overalls) I suspect that this place is a lot busier on the weekends.

I also suspect that there will be less office activity upstairs.

Thank you for travelling with me in another location in Cape Town, South Africa!

Cheers!
@zakludick
