The Half Life Experience
Intro
Talking about games that work on any computer we have several. But it is different when we try the whole experience of these.
When I was a kid I always remember the FPS "Counter-Strike" and "Half-Life". In Half-Life I only played the tutorial which was outside of the story mode. Since I was scared to go through the story. Anyway, I played it a little bit.
I was terrified of aliens. I grew up and decided to pass it all on. The story is so good that I've already played it 2 times.
I have summarized my 6 hours of gameplay in this video. With parts of each zone from the beginning of the game to the end.
The beginning
In the story we are Gordon Freeman (as a kid you didn't even pay attention to the story) a theoretical scientist in the Anomalous Materials Laboratory at the Black Mesa Research Center.
The game begins when we enter to work in a subway scientific complex that is installed in a disused military base in a New Mexico desert.
This FPS was inspired by video games like Resident Evil, Quake, Doom and some other content like The Mist (Stephen King's novel).
I must say that in this game I did experience that certain similarity with Doom. This I got the 2nd time I was going to pass it since I knew where to go and I played very fast finishing with everything I found in my path.
It has a little bit of everything. Sometimes waves of enemies. A bit of parkour. Bosses and NPCs.
I went to get my protective suit to go to work.
There I was, working.
And for some reason, it all goes wrong. The truth is, everybody said it was going to go wrong, I don't even know why they did that experiment.
This is where it all begins.
Impending disaster
I start moving through the labs after surviving all the chaos.
We meet some fellow scientists who tell us that the phones have stopped working and that we must go to the surface for help.
What they don't tell me is that out of nowhere in the entire science complex there are creatures from another dimension.
Some colleagues became infected and took control of their bodies. I wasn't going to take any chances. I attacked everyone equally. Plus they leave you with a haul of ammunition and weapons.
Everything turns into a mess and we just have the mission to get back to the surface through all that madness.
The good news is that the army arrived at the science complex.
The bad news is that the army came to liquidate all the witnesses to eliminate all evidence of the event.
Now we not only have to face aliens, but also armed humans wearing bulletproof vests.
Anyway, we continue with the initial mission, to go to the surface.
On one occasion I am pulled back when the surface is bombarded.
But finally we managed to overcome all the obstacles and found the exit. And so we passed the game.
But we are ambushed and dragged into some kind of machine that crushes things.
What they don't know is that at the university we practice parkour.
To make a long story short. I went back to the surface. I shot everything I could find.
Except for this one.
This guy has too much life. The only thing left for me to do was to run away when I saw him. Although in the other world I attacked one until it exploded. But I think it was smaller... I don't remember.
And think about the water areas. This enemy was one of the ones I remember the most.
With the original graphics you couldn't see underwater until you went in and suddenly there was this enemy coming at you at full speed. With how much the graphics have advanced, it's not as scary now, but back in the day it was scary as hell.
Journey to another dimension
By the end I was taking it so seriously that it was immersive. I remember a peaceful NPC pointing a shotgun at me, it was such a surprise in the form of a threat that I had a "hey easy old man" reflex.
Well the thing is that they explain to us that an all-powerful being controls the teleportations of these creatures to our world. And that we are the only ones able to go to his world and kill him.
They send me, I think they had sent others before, but they die on the mission. There I found the bodies with their things.
Well, we enter this world until we find the lair of the final boss.
There we lower his defenses, until we expose his weak point. This boss is a real bastard if you don't know how to beat him.
After attacking the weak point, that's when the cramps start.
And then it explodes.
After that, this man comes along and we get hired in a way that I never understood. I don't think in a good way. It's like we never got away from this problem.
But if he gives you two choices... Work for him or a battle you'll never win.
I have tried both options. To see the two endings, but apparently, the story is to choose the job.
This is the end of Half-Life.
Thanks for watching!

probably the best shooter in history in terms of relevance and how it shaped the industry.
It's great how this game that runs on any computer gives you a story with structure and hours of trip FPS gameplay.
