The constant chaos we have to overcome.

(Edited)

I've had a tough time assessing Hive through all the front ends for over a week. I gave up trying to write a post after a post I wrote and scheduled stayed in my drafts for 3 days and realized every time I tried to write a new article Leofinance would shut down.

I believe the problem is from my end because this always happens to me sometimes and then everything gets sorted out.

I've had my usual bad and good days over the past week. I went over to my parents for a while and had a fantastic time bonding with them and discussing politics and family issues.

My stay with my parents was a mixture of sadness, happiness and some discomfort. During those 10 days, I came to realize that people, in fact, are going through a lot right now and they'll take any chance they get to find anyone who can lift even a little of that weight from their shoulders.

My country has been undergoing a lot of struggle lately. From the inability to access physical cash to the difficulty in making online transactions, the increase in fuel prices and transportation and the inability to even purchase fuel.

It has been constant chaos from one part of the country to another. There have been riots, protests, burning of banks and attacks at fuel stations. The entire country is a complete mess and every single person is affected.

This has further increased the pinch of poverty that the majority of the country is suffering, causing the few middle class that have their homes open to people to suffer from feeding so many people at a time.

For 5 days, while members of my extended family came over to mourn the death of my uncle, my mother overextended herself so much I almost felt sorry for her. People took advantage of the situation to come over just to feed themselves 3 times a day.

There's so much hunger going around and it makes me worry because my family is middle class and it bothers us so much. We still have food to eat comfortably and sometimes a little more to give out but it's still a bother because we feel the hardship a lot more than normal. This makes me wonder how hard it must be for other much lower income earners are having it in these times.

I can't give any particular reason why it's this tough aside from the fact that the government recently made some monetary policies like changing the highest 3 denominations in the country, making them scarce and giving a tight deadline and other policies surrounding the exchange of the old notes.

These policies are going to have positive advantages in the nearest future but at the time, they're causing a lot of growing pains for many people in the country. At the same time, the banks are trying to encourage the use of online transactions on systems that are not yet built to properly handle many users so it's one trouble after another.

The Naira notes are being traded within the country and I wish it was a joke. I recently paid N1,500 in order to purchase N5,000. There's the bank value for the Naira note and then the black market value of the naira. It's insane.

I've done my best to limit my exposure to everything going on by making as few transactions as possible and holding only the necessary amount of physical cash that I might need for a period but I can only do this comfortably because I barely have many needs that can't be met easily, not a lot of people are as lucky.

I don't know what the next few weeks hold for my country but hopefully, I'll be able to keep writing about them and documenting this entire shit show.

Wow....as usual it's really hard to wrap my head around the situation, but it sounds like it's hard to understand even for a local....

I'd like to think that there are opportunities when things get hard but I know it's not easy...I guess the best thing might be if you could get some businesses using Hive and bitcoin and then get more people on hive which will be more stable and accessible than the Naira for people with internet...assuming internet connection doesn't have any big problems....

I wish you and your family well, and I'm always around to talk to, at the very least with a few hours delay when I'm working/sleeping
