Market Friday Entry: What's for Lunch?
Im a Filipina so I always have lunch with rice paired with any viand that I can find.
Life is hard, I earn a good amount but since I and my husband are dreaming to have a better future, we invest most of what we have today for the kids' brighter future.
So I had to be thrifty.
Sometimes, I bring my own food so I will not have to buy food outside but there are times when I rwlly cant just like today. So I went to the canteen to look for a good food that's right for my money.
Two months ago, I never wantead to go to the canteen anymore. The food are just overpriced, due to monopoly and everyone was complaining. Thus the manager solved it thru inviting more sellers. To date, there are 5 food sellers catering almost 200 employees.
Before lunch break, I went to the canteen. At that time, there are still lot of food to choose from and this store is what I chose to buy from.
She is a wife of a fellow employee and she was known to have a good cooking skills. Her dishes are good especially those that have coconut milk.
Here's a peek on her small store
That's her, scooping out the last of the dish that I was buying. She have me a 5peso discount because what's left form the food is lesser than her usual 1 serving.
She sells processed food, fried like hotfogs and chicken loaf and fried chickens. Hotdogs were sold for 10 pesos each, and it tastes like flour mostly.
inon-onang bangus (fish stew) I love how this taste like, the best part? Its the fish belly
I seldomly buy meat, because it's more expensive compared to buying a raw one and cook at home yet when my cravings are pushing me, I juat can't say no.
Fruits
These are two types of bananas, on a cluster is called lakatan, the sweetest banana I knew and the other is called soay-baguio if im not wrong. But most people call them dole since the one that plants them is the Dole company. Fjmny how people call things in my place
soda and energy drinks
Do you always drink coke after meals? Honestly, I envy thsoe who do. It feels like they have lots of money to buy it, and another bottle for snacks. But I feel pitty of them at the same time. Sodas increases blood sugar level and damaging the cells of the body and giving you diseases.
What I bought
I chose the banana heart salad. I'm a fan of banana heart but my husband don't eat it so I don't make one at home.
It tastes good plus she added some chillies on it.
This is how it looked like on a plastic
But before she could tell me it had some chillies already, I asked and picked one from her table.
She got lady fingers salad too but my camera captured it poorly. She sells them for 20 pesos per serve.
She got a fruit salad and junkfoods too.
Having them five here made first one to lower their price. And it made me feel like my money was valued enough for its price.
This may not look like your usual canteen ; burgers pizzas and the likes but this is how my end looks like. the food sold is designed for the employees to had a good food which is light for thier no, our pockets too.
This will be all for now, thank you for your support and see you around. This is my entry for @dswigle's marketfriday challenge.

Starting immediately, #MarketFriday will be paused for a period of time. I want to thank you for your support along the way and I look forward to seeing you back when I resume the posting concept.
#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday
