Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus /Santuário do Sagrado Coração de Jesus - Viana do Castelo, Portugal [En-Pt]

Today I want to share with you a visit I made to one of the best-known Sanctuaries in the northern region of my beloved Portugal.
Located in Viana do Castelo, in the middle of the Mount of Santa Luzia, it impresses everyone with its architecture, as well as the 360º view of the entire region.

From up there, you can get a fantastic view of the city of Viana do Castelo, as well as the River Lima, the Commercial Port and the Viana do Castelo Shipyards. The view is completed when we have a unique view of the mouth of the river where we can glimpse all the magic of a fantastic evening.

In 1927, this was considered by National Geographic to be the third best panorama, with the entire mountain complex surrounding it.

There are three options for visiting the Sanctuary, also known as the Basilica of Santa Luiza: Going there by road, using the funicular called Elevador de Santa Luzia, or using the Staircase. My friend and I, even though we were driving, decided to park near the Church of São Francisco and take the 659 steps.

With a countryside so rich in culture, history and people, I'm increasingly keen to discover more about my own country, when there's no possibility of traveling outside Portugal.

I'll now show you some photos I took on that sunny October day in 2022.
