Costa Rica Orange-chinned Parakeet π
The orange-chinned parakeet of Costa Rica is a small bird, with green color, slightly striped with brown on the shoulder. It is considered a social bird as it is with flocks most of the time during breeding season. It is observed flying in the air or feeding in the open branches.
We can find it in open forests, parks and gardens.
This parrot prefers to eat fruits and seeds. But they also feed on flowers, herbs, insects, and algae. We may also see them feeding on mud which contains abundant minerals near the banks of rivers.
Parakeet builds its own nest on a soft substrate like nest in tree holes made by woodpeckers, sheltered by palm trees.
More than 100 years have passed since the death of the last captive Carolina parrot - the only native parrot in North America. Have you tried visiting the museum in order to attend a Carolina parrot distribution?
What type of birds do you prefer?
Good Evening π
