Crochet Slim Fit Cardigan|| An Absolute Beauty.
Hello Needlework lovers✨
I come bearing great news!
I started this year with three major unfinished projects. Last week, I completed one of these projects and today, I will be showing you the final result of the second uncompleted project. Two down, one to go.
The project for today is a slim fit crochet cardigan. I personally enjoyed making this piece because of the yarn colour; purple. I like the colour purple very much because it has its way of standing out.
In January, I shared with fellow needlework lovers the WIP of this project and I got amazing responses and encouragement. This was when I made up my mind to complete this project whether it cost me a fortune or not.
Materials used.
- 4.0mm crochet hook
- purple yarn
- darning needle
- stitch markers
- yarn cutter
- measuring tape
I shared the procedures for the front and back panels in the previous post which you can find here. The parts that pended completion were the sleeve and the final phase which was the coupling of all the parts.
For this whale project I made use of the single crochet stitch, placing them in the back loops only. For the arms of the slim fit cardigan, I made a total of about 115 chains. This length covers my arms properly.
After making the foundation chains, I made 22 half double crochet stitches on the second row and for the remaining part, I used single crochet stitches. The 22 half double crochet stitches were made in the first and last six rows. The rows in between were made fully with single crochet stitches. This was done as a form of increase for the upper arm. This is to ensure that the upper arm fits properly and isn't too tight.
I made rows enough to go round my arm and I repeated the same pattern for the second sleeves of the cardigan. Once I finished making my sleeves, it was time to join all the parts together. Finally!
I started by joining the front and back panels together at the edges using single crochet stitches. I worked on the wrong side of the cardigan.
After joining the panels, it was time to attach the sleeves. I folded the sleeves in half and placed a stitch marker in the middle. With the same stitch marker, I attached the middle part of the sleeves to the middle part of the body of the cardigan on both sides.
I went ahead to place stitch markers on other parts of the sleeves to enhance accuracy. Afterwards, I began attaching both ends of the sleeves and when I got to the top, I continued in a straight line till both the arm and the side of the cardigan were sewn together. I repeated this for both arms and all open spaces were sealed in the end.
The next thing I did was attach the buttons, ensuring that the buttons tallied with the button holes.
After adding buttons, I went ahead to sew in all the loose ends that I didn't work over and this brought me to the end of the project! I was so excited to try it on. I preferred to wear it a little bit off the shoulders and I love how it turned out.
This crochet slim fit cardigan is certainly going to serve its purpose as the rainy season is fast approaching.
I would totally love to hear your thoughts on the final result. Do you like how it turned out or could I have made any adjustments? Do let me know.
