Blue💙|| Crochet Scarf.

Hello Needlework Lovers✨

I am pleased to share with you this crochet project that I felt so reluctant to complete for months; a crochet chequered scarf.

Taking on challenges is one thing I like to do and that is exactly what I did the day I decided to begin the process of making this scarf. Before then, I realised that I had no actual crochet chequered pattern item. If I'm being honest, something deep down kept pulling me away from this particular pattern because it can be quite the task.

However, about two months ago, I decided to create something in this pattern and what better thing to create than a multipurpose scarf? The twist however was the fact that regular crochet scarfs are usually white and black but I chose to go with blue and black!

Materials used.

  • 4.0mm crochet hooks
  • Two balls of yarn
  • Darning needle
  • A pair of scissors

To create this scarf, I began by making a chain of thirty-two. The scarf was going to consist of three boxes consecutively. After making the starter chains, I used the same black yarn to begin the pattern and on the tenth chain, I switched to blue. On the twentieth chain, I switched back to black.

I repeated this double crochet pattern for four rows before alternating the colours.

The trick to making this pattern however is by properly hiding the colour not being used under the dominant colour until when next it is needed. Blue isn't exactly the type of colour that can easily be hidden but I tried.

Twenty three horizontal boxes and ninety-four rows later, I finally got my desired length. At this point, I sat back to appreciate the work so far. I honestly give it up to crochet artists who make flawless chequered patterns. It's either the cut and join on every single row or they have mastered the art of hiding yarns underneath. If there is another method you know about, please share:).

The greater part of the job was done but the edges still looked very unappealing; evidence of lots of twisting and turning.

With my black yarn, I went round the edges of the scarf using single crochet stitches. I chose to use black colour so that the scarf wouldn't come out too shouty and I guess I chose right.

The last thing I did was sew in my loose end and I was pretty much done.

As one must have guessed by now, I made this scarf with my black attires in mind. I have quite a number of black sleeveless clothes and wearing a jean jacket over such clothes every single time can be humdrum, hence, the scarf.

I must confess that I wasn't quite pleased with the blue and black combination a few rows into the project but on completion, I think the colour combination isn't as bad as I imagined

The best thing about this scarf is the fact that it can be styled differently. One can choose to wrap it round the neck, drape it round the shoulder, and to take it a notch higher, it can even be tied on the head😌.

A scarf is an asset/necessity everyone (especially ladies) should have and I'm glad I was able to make a unique one for myself. What do you think of this particular crochet craft? I would love to know:)

All images used belong to me and were taken with my mobile device except stated otherwise.

Love🤍
