"WHY IS IT SO HARD TO MEDITATE?"
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. This is my entry for this week's ecotrain question of the week (QOTW). Should something as simple as sitting still in one position, closing one's eyes and being mindful of the present be a difficult thing to do? But, of course it is very hard for so many people to meditate without being distracted (that's if you are able to begin) and for others it is almost impossible to get into a meditative position. Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.
Meditation can be very difficult or in a more explicit language, boring, if one is not aware of the reasons for meditating and the techniques to use. In some cases, it can seem so odd to attempt to take a sitting position in the corner of your room in an attempt to meditate especially when you have someone around in a setting where those sitting positions are not common. I'm pretty sure I will be laughed at by my hommies if they see me sitting down on a mat in a corner of the room, closing my eyes and hanging my hands together as I reflect. It is not a common practice in this part of the world.
So, it may be best to opt for techniques that may not be easily noticeable that will lead to unnecessary criticism and banter. Well, from my personal experience, I have tried to mediate in a sleeping position and I must admit that it doesn't end well 😂. Yes, it doesn't end well because it will take less than five minutes for me to get lost in my thoughts and doze off. I presume that is one of the reasons the first set of people who practiced mediation adopted the most popular style that has to do with sitting in a certain position. The position is not a comfortable one (so to speak), so it makes it easy to meditate for long without feeling too relaxed.
Like I stated earlier, meditation can be difficult if you have people around you for various reasons. Apart from the fact that they may see your meditative practice as strange or odd, you may not have the time to even think about meditating not to talk of concentrating if you have young children around or your house is always as busy as a market square. This is one of the common reasons that meditation seems difficult. It is a practice that needs some quiet and not a noisy environment. It may be a daunting task to meditate in a place where there is abundance of noise.
Another reason why it is difficult to meditate is that most times when everywhere is still and quiet it may not be easy to focus on one thought at a time, so the clashing of many thoughts at a time may drive one crazy. The mind is one thing that have the ability to jump from one thought to another and trying to stop it may be almost impossible. That is how the mind works on a good day and it is normal but the fact that you pay close conscious attention to it through mediation, that is why you are able to recognize the process. In other words, our mind is very good at multitasking and it can not be turned off totally during meditation.
With practice meditation will not look difficult. It's just like every other skill out there that improves through constant practice. In a situation where you find it difficult to meditate due to the noise and distraction from people around, you may settle for a suitable time like when everyone have gone to bed and everywhere is calm. When you discover your best meditative moments, it will definitely work for you.

I know myself I can't try to lie down on my bed to meditate. I won't know when I will use 2 hours in my sleep 😂
Meditation is in between alpha and Theta waves. In fact, we often experience a meditative state. Without us knowing it when we are watching a movie on television or reading a book, we are in a meditative state. Or if we are daydreaming alone, seconds before going to sleep, we are also in a meditate state. Greeting from me 😁😁.
