STOP BODY SHAMING || RESPECT PEOPLE'S BODY

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. The internet have become so toxic that people especially women get body shamed from time to time. Body shaming simply means using derogatory words to describe a person's body, dress, hair and so on. This condemnable act needs more attention than it is getting because it has led to so many people experiencing mental health disorders such as depression, and above all low self-esteem. Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.

Social media have made so many people feel bad about their body shape, and color. Moreso, companies that are into skin care products, fitness, healthy living and the likes have done so much harm than good to the world through the kind of contents they promote with their brands in their advertisements. These companies paint pictures of slim people as the only healthy and fit people, and portray fat people as being unhealthy. Light skinned models are also used more often than the dark skinned ones which make most girls feel like they must bleach their skin before they can be seen as a beautiful woman.

Gone are those days when being fat is a sign that you have so much at your disposal to eat, a sign of healthy living and an indication that you are in wealth and on the other hand, being thin is a sign of poverty. But in our world today, the narrative is different. The people who are naturally fat spend hours in the gym to shed some fat or even try new diets so that they can be slim. However, it is important to know that most people who take the pain to go to the gym in order to burn fat and stay fit aren't doing it just for the sake of it. It is all for a reason. The common reason is because the don't want people to tell them that their belly is too big or they are out of shape. The motivation for wanting to look a particular way is mostly due to one form of body shaming or another.

There are people who have been body shamed for having a big body or a thin body. In some comment sections on social media, it is common to see comments like "why are you looking like you haven't eaten in a decade" in the posts of a skinny person. Or something like "you may have look more prettier in that dress if you have lost some weight" on the post of a big person. These kind of comments can make people feel bad about themselves and stop posting on social media or even fall in depression for thinking too much about their physique and staying away from people.

How will you feel if you get to hear that the person you body shamed online, in your class or even in your place of work commits murder because they feel like they are less of human only for the sole reason that they are too thin or too fat. It is going to really hurt (that's if you've got conscience, anyways). Therefore, this means that in order to put an end to body shaming, it must begin with You and I. We must encourage the public acceptance of all body size, color, shape and so on. This will make more people love themselves and focus on being healthy rather than trying to be who they are not. When you are tempted to speak badly about someone's body, take full control of your speech and say something nice about them instead.
