"IF THERE IS A GOD WHY IS THERE SO MUCH SUFFERING IN THE WORLD?"
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. This is my entry for the ecotrain question of the week season 9.2, titled: "IF THERE IS A GOD WHY IS THERE SO MUCH SUFFERING IN THE WORLD?" This question reminds me of my first year in the University when I minored in the Philosophy department in a course with course code PHL 101. It has to do with issues relating to the existence of God and there were so much arguments about it with reference to scholars and philosophers. It was a course that made people who believe in God to doubt his existence. This is a topic for another day. Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.

This question about the existence of God and why he allowed the people he created to suffer is a common question on the lips of so many people around the world. First and foremost, In the beginning when God created the world, he created the world to be good and he also created humans to be good as well. However, he didn't compel humans to be good, he gave humans the free will. In other words, man has the free will to choose whether they want to be good or the otherwise (evil).
Imagine a world where everyone is programmed the same way like a robot without the freedom to think on your own and do what you like. The world would have no much meaning whatsoever and God will be like a dictator that directs the affair of the world according to his will. This is the more reason God gave man the free will to choose the kind of life they want to live. Unfortunately, even though God created the world to be good, some people diverted to evil and ceased to follow the way of God. This could be traced to the story of the Garden of Eden in the Bible where Adam and Eve sinned against God by eating from the forbidden fruit.

On the other hand, will we understand the importance of good without evil? Are going to value joy without suffering? These are some more questions we need to ponder on in order to properly answer this week's question. We may not be able to fully understand what happiness means if we haven't suffered at one point or another. For instance, we value our health more when we recover from a sickness. This is the time we remember how important it is to take care of our health. Our favorite quotes at these times are "health is wealth" and we mean it because we have experienced the other side of it.

So, God may want us to experience, understand and value what it means to be happy and joyous. If we have this understanding we'd see the need to avoid everything that will make us walk in the path of suffering. We'd always look forward to him for favor and blessings rather than acting like Adam and Eve who were disobedient to him at the beginning of the world.
