An escape to Athens [EN - IT] Second Part 🇬🇷

Today I want to tell you about a fantastic trip to one of the historic capitals of the world, including art, culture and beautiful landscapes, we go together to visit the heart of ancient Greece: Athens.
I will divide this post into three parts in which I will talk about different aspects of the city:

Oggi vi voglio raccontare di un viaggio fantastico in una delle capitali storiche del mondo, tra arte cultura e splendidi paesaggi, andiamo assieme a visitare il cuore della Grecia antica: Atene.

INTRODUCTION
Hello friends of #Haveyoubeenhere!!! I hope you are all well... In this period I want to take my mind off of all the bad things that are happening in the world and to do that I decided to write a series of posts for you; I'm going to talk about a trip I made a few years ago with my brother in Athens a really amazing city.
This is the second post of the three that I'm going to write and I want to tell you about a unique place in the world: the Acropolis of Athens.

Ciao amici di #Haveyoubeenhere! Spero che stiate tutti bene... In questo periodo voglio distrarmi un po da tutte le brutte cose che stanno accadendo nel mondo e per farlo ho deciso di scrivere una serie di post per voi; vi parlerò di un viaggio che ho fatto qualche anno fa con mio fratello ad Atene una città davvero straordinaria.
Questo è il secondo post dei tre che ho intenzione di scrivere e vi voglio parlare di un posto unico al mondo: l'Acropoli di Atene.

Visit to the Acropolis

What you see in this picture is the acropolis of Athens, the acropolis dominates the landscape in every view, in fact you can admire it from every angle because it stands at the center of the city, at the highest point.

Quella che vedete in questa foto è l'acropoli di Atene, l'acropoli domina il paesaggio in ogni sua vista, infatti la si può ammirare da ogni angolazione perché sorge al centro della città, nel punto più alto.

Acropolis is a fortress that rises to a height of 156 meters above sea level in which still today are visible some of the most beautiful and best preserved monuments of the time.
The Acropolis was the highest part of the city and was the religious center; here stood the main temple dedicated to the goddess protector of the polis and the temples of other deities.

L'acropoli è una rocca che sorge ad un'altezza di 156 metri sul livello del mare nella quale ancora oggi sono visibili alcuni dei monumenti più belli e meglio conservati dell'epoca.
L'Acropoli era la parte più alta della città e ne era il centro religioso; qui sorgeva il tempio principale dedicato alla divinità protettrice della polis e i templi di altre divinità.

The remains we can admire today date back to the Archaic period, but traces dating back to the Neolithic and Palaeolithic periods have also been found; some imposing constructions stood on the acropolis at the end of the 7th century B.C., a period in which the walls dating back to the Mycenaean age lost their defensive importance. In the first half of the sixth century BC, the acropolis ceased to be a fortress.

I resti che oggi possiamo ammirare risalenti all'epoca arcaica, ma sono state trovate anche tracce risalenti al Neolitico e al Paleolitico; alcune costruzioni imponenti si elevavano sull'acropoli alla fine del VII secolo a.C., epoca in cui le mura risalenti all'età micenea persero la loro importanza difensiva. Nella prima metà del VI secolo a.C., l'acropoli cessò di essere una fortezza.

The ancient fortifications, buildings, temple buildings and statues were destroyed due to the Persian occupation in 480 BC.
During the reign of Pericles, to celebrate the victory over the Persians and the great political and cultural importance of Athens, the reconstruction of the acropolis was carried out, with the construction of the Parthenon.

Le antiche fortificazioni, le costruzioni, gli edifici templari e le statue furono distrutte per via dell'occupazione persiana del 480 a.C.
Durante il regno di Pericle, per celebrare la vittoria sui Persiani e la grande importanza politica e culturale di Atene, fu realizzata la ricostruzione dell'acropoli, con la costruzione del Partenone.

Inside the Parthenon was erected a colossal statue of Athena Parthenos, by Phidias part that is no longer there, the Propylaea and later the Erechtheum and the Temple of Athena Nike.

All'interno del Partenone fu eretta una statua colossale di Atena Parthenos, da Fidia parte di Fidia che oggi non c'è più, dei Propilei e in seguito dell'Eretteo e del Tempio di Atena Nike.

In the late Roman Empire, the Parthenon was transformed into a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Nel tardo impero romano il Partenone fu trasformato in chiesa dedicata alla Vergine Maria.

During the Ottoman Empire the acropolis was stripped of much of the marble.
In the nineteenth century began the first excavations and restoration of the temples, which led to sensational discoveries, such as the famous archaic statues of girls, the Kore.

Durante l'Impero ottomano l'acropoli venne spogliata di gran parte dei marmi.
Nell'Ottocento iniziarono i primi scavi e restauri dei templi, che portarono a scoperte clamorose, come le famose statue arcaiche di fanciulle, le Kore.

Here we see a few images of the Herodian Odeum of Herod Atticus, one of the buildings I enjoyed the most.

Qui vediamo qualche immagine del Odeo di Erode Attico, una delle costruzioni che mi è piaciuta di più.

It is a sloping amphitheater with a 35 m wide stage, still you can see the stone front wall and wooden floor.

Si tratta di un anfiteatro in pendenza con una scena larga 35 m, ancora oggi si può notare il muro frontale in pietra e il pavimento in legno.

It was originally protected by a wooden roof and was used as a venue for musical concerts, the steps, arranged in 32 rows, could hold up to 5000 people.

Originariamente era protetto da una copertura in legno e veniva utilizzato come luogo di ritrovo per concerti musicali, i gradini, disposti su 32 file, potevano contenere fino a 5000 persone.

From the acropolis it is possible to see the whole city, with at one end the mountains and at the other the sea and in the middle the magnificent city.

Dall'acropoli è possibile vedere tutta la città, con ad un estremo le montagne e dall'altro il mare e nel mezzo la magnifica città.

From this height the city looks just like a metropolis, it is almost unbelievable to be in the middle of an archaeological site and see this view, it really seems to be in the middle of a time paradox, between an archaic past and today's world.

Da questa altezza la città appare proprio come una metropoli, è quasi incredibile essere nel bel mezzo di un sito archeologico e vedere questa vista, sembra davvero di essere nel bel mezzo di un paradosso temporale, tra un passato arcaico e il mondo odierno.

In this picture, in the center we can see a very special building that stands out among the others for its modern form and beauty, it is the museum of the Acropolis one of the most important archaeological museums in the world designed by Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi.
The museum is very large and well organized and brings together a collection of 1500 years of history.

In questa immagine, al centro possiamo notare una costruzione molto particolare che spicca tra le altre per la sua forma moderna e la sua bellezza, si tratta del museo dell'acropoli uno dei più importanti musei archeologici al mondo progettato dall'Architetto svizzero Bernard Tschumi.
Il museo è molto grande e be organizzato e raccoglie una collezione che riunisce 1500 anni di storia.

Unfortunately, I haven't had time to visit this beautiful site, but I will as soon as I get a chance to return to Athens.

Purtroppo non ho avuto il tempo di visitare questo bellissimo sito, ma lo farò non appena avrò modo di tornare ad Atene.

THE PHARTENON

This photo represents the most famous building of ancient Greece, the Parthenon.
The Parthenon was erected on an already existing temple that was erected in the 6th century BC: there Hekatompedon, which was destroyed during the war with the Persians.

Questa foto rappresenta la costruzione più famosa dell'antica Grecia, il Partenone.
Il Partenone fu eretto su un tempio già esistente che fu eretto nel VI secolo a.C.: lì Hekatompedon, che fu distrutto durante la guerra con i Persiani.

The Parthenon is built with white marble from Mount Pentelicus, was built as a place for the placement of the statue of the goddess Athena Parthenos, a colossal sculpture of twelve meters high in ivory and gold, carved by Fidia.

Il Partenone è costruito con marmo bianco proveniente dal Monte Pentelico, fu costruito come luogo per il posizionamento della statua della dea Atena Parthenos​, una scultura colossale di dodici metri d'altezza in avorio e oro, scolpita da Fidia.

The Parthenon is about 70 meters long and 30 meters wide and is surrounded by columns throughout its perimeter, 8 in the main facade and 17 in the side ones.

Il Partenone è lungo circa 70 metri e largo 30 metri ed è circondato da colonne per tutto il suo perimitro, 8 nella facciata principale e 17 in quelle laterali.

On the fregio was represented the procession of the Panatenee, a religious festival among the most important of the time that took place in Athens.
The scene was carved on all sides of the building represented 300 human and animal figures.

Sul fregio era rappresentata la processione delle Panatenee, un festival religioso tra i più importanti dell'epoca che si realizzava ad Atene.
La scena era scolpita su tutti i lati dell'edificio rappresentava 300 figure umane e animali.

CONCLUSION
The Acropolis of Athens is truly a unique place in the world where you can live breathing the air of a vanished antiquity, of which magnificent artifacts remain. In each artifact you can see the greatness of the Hellenic civilization founder of modern civilization.
It was very interesting to visit the acropolis, I hope to return soon.
In the next post we will see Athens as a metropolis, what there is in the city and how to live ... we will also go for a dip in the beautiful sea!

CONCLUSIONE
L'acropoli di Atene è davvero un posto unico al mondo nel quale puoi vivere respirando l'aria di un'antichità ormai scomparsa, della quale rimangono magnifici reperti. In ogni reperto si può scorgere la grandezza della civiltà ellenica fondatrice della civiltà moderna.
E' stato molto interessante visitare l'acropoli, spero di tornarci presto.
Nel prossimo post vedremo invece Atene come metropoli, cosa c'è nella città e come si vive... andremo anche a farci un tuffo nello splendido mare!
