A walk in Aosta [EN - IT] 🇮🇹

Good morning #Hive and travelers of the #Haveyoubeenhere community! Today I want to tell you about an Italian city that I visited during a business trip; I was traveling to Switzerland and I decided to stop for lunch in Aosta, a small town in the middle of the Alps that I had heard a lot about.
This small town is really beautiful and full of secrets, of course I was just passing through, but I think it is a very interesting destination for those who are in these parts.

Oggi voglio raccontarvi di una città italiana che ho visitato durante un viaggio di lavoro; stavo viaggiando verso la Svizzera e ho deciso di fermarmi a pranzo ad Aosta, una piccola cittadina in mezzo alle alpi di cui avevo sentito molto parlare.
Questa piccola città è davvero bellissima e piena di segreti, ovviamente ero qui solo di passaggio, ma ritengo che sia una meta molto interessante per chi si trova da queste parti.

SCOPRIAMO AOSTA

Aosta is located in the extreme north of Italy just a few kilometers from the Gran San Bernardo pass through which it is possible to go to Switzerland; we arrived here exactly at lunchtime leaving Emilia Romagna at 7 am.

Aosta si trova nell'estremo Nord dell'Italia a pochi chilometro dal passo del Gran San Bernardo attraverso il quale è possibile andare in Svizzera; siamo arrivati qui esattamente all'ora di pranzo partendo dall'Emilia Romagna alle 7 di mattina.

Aosta has a important historical center and is located in the middle of the mountains, the city develops along an East-West axis and is crossed in the south by the Dora Bàltea River, the Buthier de Valpeline stream, one of the many tributaries of the Bàltea crosses it from North to South.

Aosta ha un importante centro storico e si trova nel mezzo delle montagne, la città si sviluppa lungo un asse Est-Ovest ed è attraversata nella parte Sud dal Fiume Dora Bàltea, il torrente Buthier de Valpeline, uno dei numerosi affluenti del Bàltea la attraversa invece da Nord a Sud.

Important mountains dominate around Aosta, among which the Becca di Nona, the Monte Emilius, the Pointe de Chaligne and the Becca di Viou.
No matter where you are in Aosta you can always see the high mountains in the distance and the view is really beautiful.

Attorno ad Aosta dominano importanti montagne, tra le quali la Becca di Nona, il Monte Emilius, la Pointe de Chaligne e la Becca di Viou.
Qualsiasi sia la tua posizione ad Aosta si vedono sempre in lontananza le alte montagne che la sovrastano ed il panorama è veramente bello.

A WALK THROUGH THE CITY

UNA CAMMINATA PER LA CITTA'

This is the magnificent entrance to the city, the ancient towers that served as a fortress and as lookout points in ancient times surround the small old town.
The walls are high, they are solid and well restored, this town is perfect for all those who love history and ancient cities.

Questa è la magnifica entrata della città, le antiche torri che servivano come fortezza e come punti di avvistamento nelle epoche antiche circondano il piccolo centro storico.
Le mura sono alte, sono solide e ben ristrutturate, queste cittadina è perfetta per tutti coloro che amano la storia e le città antiche.

The historical center of the city is not very large, among the various buildings you can see some very special elements, such as this building.
To the sight it seems an ancient abbey, the religiousness of its function is testified by the frescoes "on sight" on the external facade.
This is perhaps one of the most particular buildings, however there are many other details that can be admired walking through the ancient streets.

Il centro storico della città non è molto grande, tra le varie costruzioni si possono scorgere alcuni elementi molto particolari, come per esempio questo edificio.
Alla vista sembra un'antica abbazia, la religiosità della sua funzione è testimoniata dagli affreschi "a vista" sulla facciata esterna.
Questo è forse uno degli edifici più particolari, tuttavia ci sono tantissimi altri dettagli che possono essere ammirati passeggiando per le antiche vie.

This church is the cathedral of Aosta, (Cathédrale Notre-Dame de l'Assomption) it dates back to the fourth century BC and underwent many changes before becoming as we see it today: a masterpiece of architecture, a jewel within the historic city walls.

Questa chiesetta è la cattedrale di Aosta, (Cathédrale Notre-Dame de l'Assomption) essa risale al IV secolo a.C. e subì numerose trasformazioni prima di divenire come la vediamo oggi: un capolavoro di architettura, un gioiello all'interno delle mura storiche della città.

Inside the historic center of the city there is a beautiful archaeological park that has undergone a few years ago a conservative restoration, today you can visit this park that shows traces of the historic streets of the city very well preserved.
Seeing the archaeological spaces inside the city is a very special experience, because of the time I could not visit the archaeological park, but I managed to take a picture of the most particular point.
Behind the archaeological area you can see the ancient city with the two beautiful bell towers, and then the Alps.

All'interno del centro storico della città c'è un bellissimo parco archeologico che ha subito qualche anno fa un intervento di restauro conservativo, oggi è possibile visitare questo parco che mostra delle tracce delle vie storiche della città molto ben conservate.
Vedere degli spazi archeologici che all'interno della città è un'esperienza molto particolare, per colpa del tempo non ho potuto visitare il parco archeologico, ma sono riuscito a fare una foto del punto più particolare.
Dietro all'area archeologica si vede la città antica con i due bellissimi campanili, e poi le alpi.

The city center is really beautiful, the buildings are all renovated and clean, a real gem.

Il centro città è davvero bellissimo, gli edifici sono tutti ristrutturati e puliti, un vero gioiello.

The town had just hosted an event, there was a large shed in the center of its plaza.
I would have loved to see this beautiful main square without this shed, however, I had no choice but to photograph it as it was.

La città aveva appena ospitato un evento, era presente un grande capannone nel centro della sua piazza.
Mi sarebbe piaciuto vedere questa bellissima piazza principale senza questo capannone, tuttavia non ho potuto far altro che fotografarla così com'era.

Once the tour of the city was over, it was finally time for a good lunch with typical products.
The historic center is full of small tourist restaurants, the environments are very special, furnished with wood as in a mountain hut.
Here I was able to eat a delicious polenta with beef stew, really good.

Una volta terminato il giro per la città era finalmente il momento di un buon pranzo con prodotti tipici.
Il centro storico è pieno di piccoli ristoranti turistici, gli ambienti sono molto particolari, arredati con il legno come in una baita di montagna.
Qui ho potuto mangiare una buonissima polenta con spezzatino di carne di manzo, davvero buonissima.

I could not resist to try also a typical dessert: apple strudel, which is served with cream and custard, really very good.

Non ho resistito a provare anche un dolce tipico: lo strudel di mele, che viene servito con panna e crema, davvero molto buono.

Aosta is really a beautiful city, the historical center is very unique and you can eat really well.
I would like to come back and visit these places, spend some time in the surrounding mountains and eat some more good food.
I recommend everyone to visit Aosta.

Aosta è davvero una bellissima città, il centro storico è molto particolare e si mangia davvero bene.
Mi piacerebbe tornare a visitare questi luoghi, passare un po di tempo sulle montagne limitrofe e mangiare qualche altro buon piatto.
Consiglio a tutti di visitare Aosta.
