Finding A Balance: How To Not Be Overwhelmed
Maintaining a healthy work-life balance can be a really tricky task. But learning how to is quite essential & can lead to a more healthier & productive life.
I'm at the point in life where I have numerous things I need to do & if I don't keep a balance then I'll suffer consequences. Most of us are in similar case.
This is my final year at the university, I have my project work in hand. Then there's Hive & there's chess; as I have 2 major events coming up this year, Nigeria University Games inclusive.
Hive alone can be all time consuming, it requires consistency, engagement & time. How then do I intend to keep a healthy balance so one of these don't suffer too much.
Well, truth is one has definitely got to suffer. I'm not a machine, humans are not machines. We can only focus on a handful of things at same time. So my aim is to not let the one that'll suffer, suffer much.
Here are some interesting tips I found on on how to do so:
Having a to-do list
Source
I think this is one of the most important thing to do if we plan to manage our life properly. Sometimes we ignore this & say: I already know what I need to do, it's all in my head. But we fail to understand that it being just in your head doesn't help in effective planning & prioritizing of the things to be done.
Whenever our brain remembers a task we're meant to be doing, it assumes we're meant to be doing it now even when we're on a task we also need to handle. This can lead to anxiety & one ends up jumping from one task to another without significant progression on any of them.
That is one reason why having a well structured to-do list helps.
Prioritizing Time
With so many things in our to-do list, we need to categorize them based on priorities. That way, we can then know how to distribute our time to suit each task based on it's urgency & importance.
We can categorize them into:
- Urgent & important
- Important but not urgent & so on ...
Also, creating a timeline for these activities is really helpful. You can use some computer software like excel or even use apps like Notion for Android & IOS
Having the to-do list, categorizing them based on priorities while including dates & timeframes will go a long way to help one be more productive.
Exercising
Source
This is something I find quit hard to commit to but this year I'm sure gonna make it a must do. Exercising have so many benefits ranging from physical to mental health.
Staying fit will definitely be a plus if one wants to live a productive life. Therefore, it should be given as much priority.
Taking A Time out.
Alot of acclaimed successful people give, Talks like: "grind grind, sleep when you're dead". But in reality sleep & rest is very essential for one to have a more productive life.
You might spend 5 hours on a project & I could spend just 2 hours on it instead, achieving same thing as you that spent 5 hours. This is the power of a focused & sound mind. Sleep & proper rest helps with that. So regardless of how hard I intend on grinding I definitely would make out time for proper rest.
Manage your mind
Mostly everything boils than to our mindset. I believe we can achieve anything we set out to do by having the right mindset. The sort of people we spend time with can help lift wr up so it is important we work on our companies.
Managing yourself reflects a sense of responsibility in what you do in a day, and in a lifetime. It is being proactive and realizing the power of choice, and knowing what you do have control over.
