DIY red dinner gown

I have not been a fan of red fabrics or wears while growing up that even when it came to occasions where red was the color of choice- my outfit collection had a lacuna.

As I grew older, I grew into loving the color red especially for dinner wear. The fiery look of boldness, elegance, poise and sophistication it gives, makes it even more attractive and appealing to have in your collection of wears.

As usual, I began by drawing out the design I wanted and got two fabrics for this project;
A scuba fabric and a sequence fabric.
Other items are;

• Brown paper
• Scissors
• Soft lining
• Pencils
• Ruler and Chalk
• Sellotape

Using my measurements of round waist, round hips, waist to hips, waist to knee and full skirt length I cut out the skirt region. I wanted a fish-like flair to the lower part so I created a shape as seen below.

Then I cut out a little potion to add to the tail of the skirt’s regions back part.

To get the gathers illusion in front, I cut out the lining to be the basis on which I will make the gathers settle.

Then I cut out the gathers on the pattern made to look like this then held it down with a sellotape.

First I started with sewing darts on both the lining and fabrics. I joined the skirt separately and then the top before attaching the two together.
The zip was the last detailing and….

Viola!
