We start again in 2024 with laboratory - Semester I December - May. // Arrancamos de nuevo en el 2024 con laboratorio- Semestre I lapso Diciembre - Mayo.

Hello friends how are you, well I arrived from my short stay and "holiday" in Colombia again to start another academic term at my university, in theory my holiday was short I only went out 6 or 7 times in the 6 weeks I was there, the rest of the days I worked 😥. I missed the first 2 weeks of classes, but there wasn't much progress and it didn't affect me in the continuity of the following subjects.
This semester we will have a lot of lab practicals, some field trips and of course a lot of theory exams, too many really.

Hola amigos como están?, bueno llegue de mi corta estadía y "vacaciones" en Colombia de nuevo para empezar otro lapso académico en mi universidad, en teoría mis vacaciones fueron cortas solo salí 6 o 7 veces en las 6 semanas que estuve allá, el resto de los días trabaje 😥. Falté a las 2 primeras semanas de clases, pero no hubo mucho avance y tampoco me afecto en la continuidad de los siguientes temas.
Este semestre tendremos muchas practicas de laboratorio, algunos viajes de campo y por su puesto muchos exámenes teóricos, demasiados la verdad.

In a previous post I had commented that this semester I have to start my thesis or experimental degree work and I'm a bit nervous because although I have some ideas and topics to work on, I don't think I have enough time, but we will try to do our best, a funny thing is that the rest of my classmates in the subject "Research Methodology", they are 3 or 4 semesters more advanced than me, when they found out that I had reached this point by presenting some extraordinary exams and advancing subjects they looked at me with a strange face.

En un anterior post había comentado que este semestre me toca iniciar mi tesis o trabajo experimental de grado y estoy un poco nervioso por que aunque tengo algunas ideas y temas de que trabajar, no creo tener el tiempo suficiente, pero vamos a tratar de hacer lo mejor posible, una cosa chistosa es que el resto de mis compañeros en la materia "Metodología de la investigación", son 3 o 4 semestres mas avanzados que yo, al enterarse que yo había llegado hasta este punto por presentar algunos exámenes extraordinarios y adelantar materias me miraron con una cara extraña.

Well for the subjects that I have to see according to my semester is agricultural chemistry, something that is familiar to me because it is working with chemical and organic fertilizers, see their compositions, presentations and requirements for crops. However, here we already talk about chemical compounds according to their names and appropriate nomenclatures, as well as seeing some generalities which I did not know, for example hygroscopicity (which is the property of fertilizers to absorb moisture from the environment), which I did not know and now explains many things.

Bueno para las materias que me corresponde ver según mi semestre se encuentra Química agrícola, algo que se me hace familiar pues es trabajar con fertilizantes químicos y orgánicos, ver sus composiciones, presentaciones y requerimientos para los cultivos. Sin embargo acá ya hablamos de los compuestos químicos según su nombre y nomenclaturas adecuadas, así como ver algunas generalidades las cuales no sabia, por ejemplo la higroscopicidad (que es la propiedad que tienen los fertilizantes de absorber humedad del ambiente), cosa que no sabia y ahora explica muchas cosas.

The volatility of some fertilisers when they come into contact with alkaline soil for example, salinity, how this affects the reactions. I found it all very interesting and I really liked it a lot, as it will shape me more in the fertilization part of my crops.
Of course after the theoretical lectures, we immediately jumped into practice and started to do some experiments.

La volatilidad de algunos fertilizantes al entrar en contacto con el suelo alcalino por ejemplo, la salinidad, como afecto esto a las reacciones. Todo me pareció super interesante me gusto mucho la verdad, ya que esto me moldeara mas en la parte de fertilización para mis cultivos.
Por su puesto luego de ver clases teóricas, inmediatamente saltamos a la practica y comenzamos a realizar algunos experimentos.

Plant physiology, here we will look at the physiological processes of the plant, how growth occurs and why, for example why the internode spacing in plants is shorter in winter and longer in summer, how the process of photosynthesis occurs in much more depth where we talk about the uptake of blue and red light for example. Also how the movement of water and nutrients occurs, how it affects humidity, how transpiration occurs and many other things.
I have noticed that Physiology is the basis of most of the subjects that are to come in the future, so learning here is important.

Fisiología vegetal, acá vamos a ver los procesos fisiológico de la planta, como ocurre el crecimiento y por que?, por ejemplo por que los espacios de los entrenudos en las plantas son mas cortos en invierno y mas largos en verano, como ocurre el proceso de fotosíntesis mucho mas a fondo donde hablamos de la captación de luz azul y roja por ejemplo. Además de como ocurre el movimiento de agua y nutrientes, como afecta la humedad, como es su transpiración y muchas otras cosas.
He notado que Fisiología es la base de la gran mayoría de materias que están por venir a futuro así que aprender acá es importante.

And similar to the previous subject I have Forrajicultura, which is a subject for the production of food for cattle, goats and sheep, here we talk about grasses and legumes that are of economic importance. This subject does not really make an impression on me, I do not plan to work with animals so I discard the explanation a bit, although it is important to understand it at a professional level. It is important to note that the subject is from the 9th semester and I feel very strange to see classes with people about to graduate.

Y parecido a la metería anterior tengo Forrajicultura, materia propia para la producción de alimentos para ganado Bovino, caprino y ovino, acá hablamos sobre las gramíneas y leguminosas que son de importancia económica. Esta materia si la verdad no causa un efecto impresivo en mi, yo no planeo trabajar con animales así que descarto un poco la explicación, aunque por su puesto a nivel profesional es importante entenderla. Importante recalcar que la materia es del 9no semestre y me siento mega extraño al ver clases con personas a punto de graduarse.

And another subject which is also important to learn but which I am not curious about is animal husbandry, which is oriented towards animal production for the dairy and meat market at national, regional and global level. Methods of animal breeding, value-added products, production and breeding and many other things.
From here the most interesting for me are the field trips to the farm, where we will have interactions with the animals, see some of the processes they go through before being taken to the industry and many more things.

Y otra materia también importante de aprender pero que tampoco me causa curiosidad esta Zootecnia animal, esta orientada a la producción animal para su explotación, ya se mercado de lácteos y mercado cárnico a nivel nacional, regional y mundial. Métodos mas efectos para la reproducción de los animales, productos con valor agregado, producciones y criaderos y muchas otras cosas.
De acá lo mas interesante para mi son los viajes de campo a finca, donde tendremos interacciones con los animales, veremos algunos procesos por los cuales son sometidos antes de ser llevados a la industria y muchas mas cosas.

And economic entomology, which although we haven't seen anything interesting yet, will show us the methods of chemical and biological control of some pests, adequate doses, integrated management and other types of control.
Here we will also have field trips and this interests me a lot, because in my production unit pests are something that we have a hard time keeping at bay.

Y entomología económica, que aunque no hemos visto cosa interesante aun, nos mostrara los métodos de control químico y biológico de algunas plagas, dosis adecuadas, manejo integrado y otros tipo de control.
Acá también tendremos viajes de campo y esto si me interesa mucho, pues en mi unidad de producción las plagas son algo que nos cuesta mantener a raya.

This is my academic load, the countdown has started and I hope that this semester will be very good for me and my colleagues, I will make the most of these subjects which are the basis for my future actions as a professional and I hope that this knowledge will be put to good use.
