Visit a nursery garden of Cactaceae, Arecas and other flowers.
Hey gardener friends, a few weeks ago I visited a botanical garden in Colombia, which in turn had a nursery of ornamental plants, which I found super interesting because most of those plants for sale were cacti, and the interesting thing is that the family of cacti are more of semi-arid climates with a little high temperatures, however the level of adaptation of these plants is so high, that even at 14-25 ° they show very well.
Apart from cacti, there were palms, monocotyledonous plants (basically garden flowers), and some citrus and fruit trees.
But I insist that the most interesting and beautiful were the cacti, which were a mini and very beautiful version of different species (which I honestly don't know), but take a look at them.
The price of these cactus left me surprised, because it was 1.5$ (equivalent to 6000 Colombian pesos), and I know that these same species are sold in the most populated cities of Colombia for 5$ (20,000 Colombian pesos), not only that friends and relatives tell me that in Europe they are much more expensive, and there if I understand it because I know that transporting these species to there is not easy.
However the species that I saw left me surprised, some had white spines literally looked like that, but in reality it is a kind of fluff that comes out of the spines, it is like a small silk.
However the prices vary a bit depending on the size, there are them at 2$ and freshly propagated at 1$.
People came up to me and brought up to 3 small cacti, and I didn't stay behind and bought one as a souvenir.
Of course I realized that the propagation of these plants has several steps, and that they comply with a proper fertilization, with adequate substrate and also that the exposure to light is indicated. And the environment is outdoors so they are not protected from humidity which can cause diseases to most plants.
The palms or arecas are super delicate, everything can affect them, a lot of water, a lot of wind, a lot of sun and these were not free of it. They looked a little yellowish and with some damage to the leaves, but the truth is that they were in good condition, and the price was affordable 8$ (32000 Colombian pesos).
According to tradition they bring good luck, and that is what we usually see in gardens or inside houses.
I remember that trying to fertilize some of these palms I burned their leaves, that's why I don't like to work with them.
The ferns can not miss in the ornamental nurseries, it is what every home has, in addition to its reproduction is by spores and anywhere that has a tropical rainforest near we can see them near the roads, they are also plants that adapt very well. They are one of the oldest plants in the world, and also a little primitive that is why they are called inferior plants.
However, everyone sees ferns as a good option to decorate homes.
And besides that some very well known and showy plants, a little of the shrub type, of some I only know the one called crown of Christ since it has a kind of crown of thorns. The rest of the plants are the typical garden plants for ornaments, these did not seem very attractive to me and they are not available in large quantities.
So therefore something tells me that I have to start propagating cacti or types of ornamental plants since they have a good market, and the truth is not as I know it requires a big investment.
I also found interesting an exhibition of orchids that they had here, however due to the time of the year the plants were not in bloom and it was not open to the public, but you could see them from outside and also some that were beginning to bloom. I believe that one of the projects according to a worker is to propagate orchids for sale, as you know they are exotic species and the orchid is the national flower of Colombia, as it is in Venezuela, only the type of species changes in each place.
See you next time and I think I will visit a commercial pitahaya garden, I hope so.
without a doubt, they are very good. You should have bought one. They are good to have at home as it helps when there is an environment with a lot of electrical appliances.
I'm sure next time I'll buy several plants to have them at home
I love nurseries, a few years ago I said that when I retire I am going to have my own nursery to sell plants, but I already think it would not be a good investment, my acquaintances only want me to give them plants. 😄
JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJ usually happens, that's how they all are, they ask for more gifts than to buy them, were you a teacher ?
Very true 😅 my mom says that you have to give plants as gifts so that the world is more beautiful, imagine the nursery would go bankrupt 😄. I'm not a teacher @wesp05
Me encanta tu jardín, los helechos y cactus, sobre todo el de color blanco
