Curiosamente por las pocas lluvias que han habido en las ultimas semanas, en los lugares de clima semi-árido la vegetación ha reverdecido, y por supuesto eso trae también que los cactus florezcan, aunque su fruto quizás no sea muy conocido por las personas de las ciudades, acá en el campo es literalmente muy común comerlos. Yo tenia meses o quizás ya mas de 1 año sin probarlos por que es muy difícil hacer coincidir el día que voy con la floración de estos mismos, además que requiere de lluvia como mencione antes en un periodo exacto para que ocurra la floración.

Curiously for the few rains that have been in recent weeks, in places of semi-arid climate vegetation has greened, and of course that also brings the cactus bloom, although its fruit may not be well known by people in the cities, here in the countryside is literally very common to eat them. I had months or maybe more than a year without trying them because it is very difficult to coincide the day I go with the flowering of these same, plus it requires rain as I mentioned before in an exact period for flowering to occur.

En esta oportunidad mi mamá y mis primas me preguntaron si quería ir a recolectar algunos y yo dije que si, así que nos fuimos en la tarde cuando el sol había bajado un poco.

Fue una caminata relativamente corta, pues en toda la zona hay diferentes tipos de cactus, y además de eso ya la temporada tiene varios días desde que comenzaron a cosecharlos, así que hay muchos que están maduro e incluso se pierden, por que la cascara se abre y la pulpa interior cae al suelo, otros simplemente son comidos por pájaros y avispas. Las cabras al rededor también rondan estos lugares para ver si pueden comer los frutos que caigan o incluso los que bajan las personas.

It was a relatively short hike, because throughout the area there are different types of cactus, and besides that the season is already several days old since they began to harvest them, so there are many that are ripe and even lost, because the shell opens and the inner pulp falls to the ground, others are simply eaten by birds and wasps. The goats around also roam these places to see if they can eat the fruits that fall or even the ones that people bring down.

La flor cuando sobresale del tallo se ve alargada y se pueden ver los sépalos y pétalos unidos, cuando ya esta polinizada comienza a formarse un fruto redondo y con espinas, de un color verde, y cuando están completamente maduro o listos para cosechar, las púas comienzan a caerse y se ven completamente rojos, algunos incluso del mismo color verde claro, pero la diferencia es que las espinas se caen y con esto es señal que lo podemos tomar.
La herramienta es una simple vara larga con 3 ganchos o dientes en la parte superior que sostengan el fruto mientras lo halamos del tallo y listo este es el proceso tan sencillo.

Cuanto yo tenia la edad de mis primitas entre 9-12 años siempre iba a recolectar datos con otros primos contemporáneos, a veces nos íbamos en la mañana y comenzábamos desde temprano a llenar una taza, siempre estaban muy frescos, lo malo es que al tener mucha fibra solía ir al baño hasta 5 veces en un día.
Hay algunos que tienen coloración naranja, amarilla, violeta, blanca, roja, y hasta ahora no se cual es el por que, pero los mas dulces siempre son los rojos y violeta.

When I was the age of my little cousins between 9-12 years old I always went to collect data with other contemporary cousins, sometimes we went in the morning and started early to fill a cup, they were always very fresh, the bad thing is that having a lot of fiber used to go to the bathroom up to 5 times in one day.
There are some that have orange, yellow, violet, white, red coloration, and until now I don't know why, but the sweetest ones are always the red and violet ones.

En este lugar también hay otras especies que tienen frutos que se comen, aunque no son muy grandes, como el buche que es el cactus redondo y pequeño.
Y también hay otras especies nopal, cardoncillo, todas con flores debido a la época y temporada, aunque ellas si no son de mucha importancia en este caso.

Y bueno al final regresamos a casa con una taza completa de frutos que me traje a la ciudad, y algo curioso es que aunque no muchos conocen este fruto, si conocen la pitahaya que aunque es originaria de América, ha sido bien recibida en Europa y Asia.

And well at the end we returned home with a full cup of fruit that I brought back to the city, and something curious is that although not many know this fruit, if they know the pitahaya that although it is native to America, has been well received in Europe and Asia.
