Signs of the Times

My heart goes out to the poor, the elderly and the mentally ill as inflation and gas prices gouge their meager monthly support. I think of the elderly who need to make frequent trips to see a doctor and have a fixed income. The first thought that comes to mind is what are they being forced to go without?

I speak with people from all over the United States during the course of my work day for a well known health insurance provider. In many of my callers voices I hear the deep frustration and I often am the default recipient of their misplaced anger. People are looking for someone or something to blame for their medical bills, rising health insurance premiums and over the top prescription drug expenses. I offer empathy and refer people to drug manufacturers when their medications cost a week's plus in wages in hopes that they can receive some level of discount for the medication.

Last week a young woman decided that she's not going to get a breast MRI because her deductible is too high.

Help whoever you can, whenever you can. You will never know how much it is appreciated and you may never know when you may need the extra help.

Have a wonderful week, Hive friends.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Philippians 4:6 KJV

How do people get through to you, on the phone? The insurance company that I have never answer their phone, I have been on hold for over an hour before I just hang up. I have been that woman who could not get a mammogram because of the cost, I did not have insurance until I turned 65. I was on one medication that the drug manufacturers provided to me for free. So help is out there if you know how to get it. My doctor told me how to apply.

I'm glad you were able to get help. I get help through the manufacturer of Botox for my out of pocket, too. It's pretty busy on the phones most every days. There are tons of calls every day. There are also less people working to answer them these days. We just hired a couple representatives, but Monday is terrible.

I have Cygna and now they are giving me a hard time about paying for one of my meds. Before I signed with them, I asked if they covered that one, and I was told that they did, now they do not what to give me the amount that my doctor has me take. It is a patch and is supposed to be changed every three days but with me working outside in the heat, if I leave it on for 3 days, it causes a red sore under it, so the doctor has me change it every 2 days and they do not like this.

Sounds like the red tape of insurance. It sounds like lidocaine. Cigna is my old insurance before this job. I am not a fan.

No, I wear a fentanyl patch, I am not a fan of them either, if it is allowed, I will be changing plans next year.

In Africa alot of the grand parents end up looking after their small grandchildren on a tiny government grant. They are struggling so much already. Very worrying situation for the children's futures too 💔

My husband is retired now, and we are both on Medicare. We have always had a tight budget, because he was the sole provider while I stayed home and taught our children there. We have never been able to afford to do all the things we'd like to do, or go all the places we'd like to go. It's certainly not any better now! My heart goes out to those who have to choose between buying groceries and paying for a prescription.

Hi @scribblingramma, I spoke to a retired lady today whose husband was put on a chemo pill that will cost over $9k. With their insurance it is required of them to purchase the drug in advance they submit to us (the man's Medicare supplement. It is a tragic thing that they don't have outright prescription benefits. He worked as a teacher or state employee for the Pennsylvania education system and this is the coverage that they earn as a retiree. I hope the manufacturer can help (Pfizer).
