[Wander with us to]: Centennial Park, Sydney Australia

Hello everyone 👋

As it’s mid-week, our minds are very much set on the weekend already. We have our fingers crossed, hoping that we will have some beautiful weather as we’ve got a few things planned. Whilst looking forward to the weekend, it brings us to a little throwback to one of our little spontaneous outing to Sydney’s Centennial Park.

It was on a weekend where we woke up from our lazy nap and decided that we shouldn’t waste the rest of the day and go out for a walk. We decided on Centennial Park as it’s been a very long time since we’ve visited and it’s also dog friendly so we could bring our furbaby, Taro.

Centennial Park is HUGE. It’s a really, really big park with ponds, lakes, race courses, restaurants and bike hire. There are many facilities there too. Just looking it up on my best friend Google, it’s 189 hectares!! Obviously we could not walk the whole park and so we walked bits of it and also stopped for a bit of a rest as we brought our picnic mat with us.

As soon as we got off the car, Taro was extremely happy and excited and was pulling on his leash as he was ready to explore. There were many dogs that afternoon so he got to have a little play and say hello to a few of them. Dogs have to remain on leash as there are horses in the area too. There are walking tracks dedicated to the horses at the park.

Centennial Park is a great place to have a picnic. It’s also one of Sydney’s most popular spots for photoshoots, especially for weddings.

There’s a function area in the park as well. A few years ago, hubby’s workplace held their annual Christmas party here at the park.

We walked around the flower garden and admired the blooms. There are so many flowers and native plants grown here.

We enjoyed the rose garden as it smelt lovely while walking through.

It was a pretty hot afternoon so we decided to take a break from the walk and lay the picnic mat out while everyone had a break with some snacks and water. We sat under the shade by the lake which was really nice.

We read online that the park has an off leash area for the dogs to play and were looking for it. As we walked, we realised we were nearing the end of our little loop and were near the car. Unfortunately we weren’t able to find it that day but instead stumbled across these little fellas. Ok, maybe not little as they’re much bigger than Taro. They’re a flock of geese just chilling by the water! Taro was intrigued but also scared of them as he’s never seen one before. He was good to keep his distance from them.

Palm trees like this usually remind people of California but the moment I saw it, I was reminded of the country I spent most my childhood at - Solomon Island. Felt a bit nostalgic and feeling it again now looking at it.

All in all, it was a really relaxing and lovely afternoon as the Centennial Park is such a great place to wind down. Usually we would visit to have a picnic or to hire some bikes and ride around the park. It was a good change to actually walk around and slowly enjoy what the park has to offer.
