Open Assistant: Open Source Alternative to ChatGPT
I don't expect it to do better than ChatGPT. What you get is more freedom and control to not be under mercy of elites.

Open Assistant is a good project but still a while away from proper release in a format you can run yourself afaik. I didn't watch the 20 minute video but I did participate in the early training and data collection for it. It's really nice to see all these open source alternatives arrive but we're unfortunately still a long way from replicating gpt-4 level LLM's on home computers. I have an #ai-discussion room in my discord where people post a lot of these sorts of projects if you're interested :)

Thanks for the post. It is definitely something I will look into just because I'm a huge fan of opensource software on top of ai tools.

I'm going to tag @ausbitbank and ask for his input on this.

The project is only starting out and it has a long way to go. I'm very optimistic about the future. I expect Open Assistant to become similar to various Android forks or Chromium forks.

I have read it lately and trying to explore it yet. A prelude to a non-human aide which is also an easy job for everyone in the business world. Is my insight right?

Yes, you are absolutely right about this, but after I saw that some open source applications have viruses, I started to approach these kinds of things with fear.
How do we know it is safe?

The examples this guy explores are both in my interest: Video games and Manga.

Also, yeah, I don't expect it to be as good as ChatGPT for a while, but I guess they're banking on users making it better. It's a huge risk, but the potential is worth it in my opinion.

You do realise that ChatGTP is open source itself right? It’s part of OpenAI. Just because Microsoft uses it doesn’t mean it’s bad and needs alternatives.
