Réquiem For A Dream is a book written by Hubert Selby Jr in 1978, a raw and very strong story about the addictions and death of dreams, where our four characters (Sara, Harry, Marion and Tyrone) have a dream which They struggle to meet, but their addictions to drugs little by little their dream goes off and leads them to a path of suffering.

It is one of the few books which it is not limited to telling you about addictions and everything the characters suffer. It's one of those stories you love, but you can not see it twice in a row. Although I like that kind of stories very much, that's why I could love the book and how it is the only one who could leave my heart empty. Very hard and sad, but leaving a good teaching and some trauma.

On the other hand we have the film and the one that for me is one of my favorite films, premiered in 2000 and directed by Darren Aronofsky. I loved the movie at a glance although just like the book, it is quite hard and traumatic, I knew because I wanted to see a strong movie and I found this movie first and I am very interested in such themes.

Requiem is a song that fulfills the function of honoring the dead, so in title Réquiem for Dream represents the death of dreams thanks to drugs. What I liked the most of the film is the representation of the hallucinations of the characters, the effects of camera and sound, distorted view, divide the planes and much more that make these scenes quite grotesque. They also show us the states of conscience, such as madness, paranoia, hallucinations and pleasure that cause them drugs.

My favorite character is Sara, both in the book and in the movie is a widow, mother of Harry and addicted to a contest program, one day she imagines that she was invited to participate in that program which enthusiasm, but at Same time she cares because she wants to wear his red dress, but she does not fit in it anymore due to overweight. She therefore try out dieting but no result and then a friend of her adviced to take pills to lose weight that turns out to be amphetamines and little by little we can see how Sara is declining in a dark hole.

On the other hand we have the history of Harry, Son of Sara, a drug consumer who is forced to sell them to gather money and get out of poverty. This business start with the friend of him Tyron who has many problems with the law. Each one had the dream of him, in the case of Tyron was to be rich and not return to the streets. But on the other hand, Harry has a bride named Marion, a rich girl, but when his parents discovered his drug addiction, they wanted to give him money, together they wanted to have their own business selling clothing designed by Marion.

However, the dream of these three is increasingly away due to its addiction to drugs so, little by little they are forced to get more drugs not only to sell it, but also to consume it.

The film manages to transmit the same feelings of panic and agony thanks to the characters that the truth is that it is impossible not to get rid of them even if they are not the best people. Although I must admit that I liked a little more the movie and it is because it is written by the story from a more psychological point of view of each character which I love because they show us many more emotions.

The four characters are very good and each one has their space and motivations we can see them all over in the movie degradation and descent. The saddest thing for me are the motivations of the characters, because everyone wants well-being, feeling loved, love, company, security, but they took a wrong path.
