Ya la policía ha intervenido los teléfonos y, debido a una petición especial de la madre de la chica, permiten que Alex esté involucrado en la investigación. Aunque la verdad la policía lo ha aceptado a regañadientes. - ¿Qué podría aportar este muchachito? - decían mientras lo miraban con cierto desprecio.

Pero parece que las cosas podrían mejorar. Acaba de llegar una carta, la cual va dirigida a Alex. Al principio, las madres de los chicos se sorprenden un poco de que no vaya dirigida a la madre de ella, pero debido a que los últimos meses habían pasado mucho tiempo juntos, sumado a cosas más importantes como el secuestro, no le dieron mucha importancia al tema.

El mensaje de la carta decía:

But things look like they could get better. A letter has just arrived, which is in Roxana's name and addressed to Alex. At first, the boys' mothers were a little surprised that it wasn't addressed to her mother, but because they had spent so much time together over the past few months, plus more important things like the kidnapping, they didn't think much of it.
