Renovación del salpicadero de la cocina (ESP/ENG)
Hello, first of all I would like to introduce myself as I am new, not only to this community which I have just found thanks to my daughter @mairene1 who has already made several posts, but I am new to all of Hive, and in fact this is my second post. My name is Victor Torres, and among other things I like to make projects in my house to improve its appearance and our quality of life, of course that is not always possible, however when you can you have to make the most of everything, so I invite you to see how I did a renovation of the backsplash of our kitchen.
Hola, ante todo me gustaría presentarme ya que soy nuevo, no solo en esta comunidad que acabo de encontrar gracias a mi hija @mairene1 que ya ha hecho varias publicaciones, sino que soy nuevo en todo Hive, y de hecho esta es mi segunda publicación. Mi nombre es Victor Torres, y entre otras cosas me gusta realizar proyectos en mi casa para mejorar su aspecto y nuestra calidad de vida, claro que eso no siempre es posible, sin embargo cuando se puede hay que aprovecharlo todo al máximo, de esta manera los invito a ver como hice una renovación del salpicadero de nuestra cocina.
As you may already know, thanks to my daughters who have been making content about it in this community, at home we started a total renovation in the bathroom (work that is now finished, by the way) but after all the work we noticed that there were some tiles left over that were taking up a lot of space, so taking into account that our kitchen backsplash also needed a renovation, especially after the wall was badly damaged after the installation of the bathroom plumbing, I thought I could use those left over tiles to give a new look to our kitchen. I started by removing the sink from its place and then the old tiles as well.
Como quizá ya sepan, gracias a mis hijas que han estado haciendo contenido al respecto en esta comunidad, en casa iniciamos una renovación total en el baño (labores que ya terminaron, por cierto) pero luego de todo el trabajo notamos que sobraron algunas baldosas que ocupaban mucho espacio, así que tomando en cuanta que el salpicadero de nuestra cocina también necesitaba una renovación, sobre todo luego de que la pared quedó muy dañada luego de la instalación de la tubería del baño, pensé que podía usar esas baldosas sobrantes para darle una nueva apariencia a nuestra cocina. Inicié retirando el fregadero de su lugar y posteriormente también las antiguas baldosas.
I then worked on making holes in the wall using a pickaxe, these holes are important because they will be responsible for making the tiles cling to the wall properly.
Luego me dediqué a abrir hoyos en la pared usando un pico, estos hoyos son importantes porque serán los responsables de hacer que las baldosas se aferren a la pared correctamente.
Then, very carefully I started to lay the tiles, the glue I used is a special tile glue by Atria brand, as it is of very good quality and our mason (the one who worked on the bathroom) recommended it to us especially. I put the glue directly on the tiles and then started to put them in place on the wall, after that I tapped it a few times with a wooden stick to make sure it would stick well to the wall.
Luego, con mucho cuidado comencé a poner las baldosas, el pegamento que usé es uno especial para baldosas de la marca Atria, ya que es de muy buena calidad y nuestro albañil (el que trabajó en el baño) nos lo recomendó especialmente. Yo puse el pegamento directamente sobre las baldosas y posteriormente comencé a ubicarlas en su lugar en la pared, posteriormente le di unos cuantos golpecitos con un palo de madera para asegurarme de que se pegara bien a la pared.
Little by little and with patience the work was coming along very well, in the areas where I needed pieces of tiles to complete the wall I had to make some measurements and send them to cut the pieces I needed, as I don't have the tile cutting machine that is required for this job.
Poco a poco y con paciencia el trabajo iba quedando muy bien, en las zonas donde requería trozos de baldosas para completar la pared tuve que hacer algunas mediciones y mandar a cortarlos trozos que necesitaba, ya que no tengo esa maquina de cortar baldosas que se requiere para este trabajo
I then applied some sealant to the joints but forgot to take pictures of that moment. The sealant is important because it will prevent moisture from seeping into the wall. And this is the final result
Luego apliqué un poco de sellador en las juntas pero olvidé tomar fotografías de ese momento. El sellador es importante porque evitará que se filtre humedad a la pared. Y este es el resultado final
And finally the kitchen ornaments and everyday implements complement the result, later on I will be doing some other repairs at home. It's all a matter of patience and creativity, if you have something left over at home, rest assured that you could use it for future projects, and if you don't know how to do it, don't worry there are many useful tutorials on the internet, I'm always watching them and with that I clear many doubts or just find some inspiration.
Y por último todo lo complementan los adornos de la cocina y los implementos de uso diario, posteriormente iré haciendo algunas otras reparaciones en casa. Todo es cuestión de paciencia y creatividad, si algo te sobra en casa, ten la seguridad de que podrías usarlo para futuros proyectos, y si no sabes como hacerlo, no te preocupes que existen muchos tutoriales muy útiles en internet, yo siempre los estoy viendo y con eso despejo muchas dudas o simplemente encuentro un poco de inspiración.
The only thing left to do is to install the sink faucet.
Lo único que me queda por hacer es instalar la llave del fregadero.

El salpicadero le quedó genial y sin dudas es un gran cambio en su cocina, lo mejor de todo es que usó material que tenía en casa y además lo hizo usted mismo!
