How to Kill Gods Unchained: A practical guide.
Failing to foresee potential outcomes
First on the list is the potential effect of DEFI on the Ethereum network. You might say to me, no one could have predicted gas prices raising to previously unheard of prices.
"The problem lies in the fundamental assumption of market-determined fees: Transaction processing is a resource in short supply. Indeed, the only way to distribute a limited resource fairly and efficiently is by determining a market price. But processing of transactions doesn’t have to be a limited resource. It was so in blockchain’s early generations, and perhaps it remained so in newer networks just because it is profitable to miners and investors. "

Second, who would have thought that the Player based would just roll over and accept when Immutable breaks a promise.
Here are the recent ones and a few older ones, but there are many more since the start of the company:
- Deck codes, we were told these were ready to roll out. This change would make it infinity easy to bring a deck into the game for modification or just straight up use. This improves the odds of new players getting decks that work, cause the starter decks are lackluster. Instead, player wastes time manually import deck after deck. No big deal since you only have to do it once a week for a deck or two.
- Sealed game Mode, we were told, just needs a few tweaks, and it would be released. Community engagement is falling, but Immutable is behaving like it is okay to lose its entire player base if they can just get to a good place and do a marketing blitz to get new players in. Holding to the idea that the future players are more important than the current players is a sure fire way to become irrelevant in the market.
- Everybody gets $IMX and $GODS token, now it is just a portion of the world that Immutable can't be sued in, or a government can regulate them out of existence. Nobody could be mad about that they if we offer them money, right? Right? Maybe form a DAO or some other solution that doesn't involve fucking over a good portion of your die-hard fans.
- Here is an oldie but goodie, world tourney when?
- Cardbacks
- Emotes in game
- Etherbots parts still not redeemable.
Bad practices
It is a know fact changes to the game balance, require changes to code instead of update a data file with the changes.Handcrafting each creature in code turns that code it too spaghetti at best and unfixable at worst. We also know they have zero automated testing for balance because it is one of the things they said they were working on "soon". This is why every change to the game takes forever.
Doesn't take the community serious.
Feedback, what is that? That's just a channel in discord that people bitch in right.
Haven't solved the onslaught problem after years of being told it is a significant problem. The result is there are many other potential problem cards slipping through the cracks since the issues they cause aren't as noticeable while onslaught is a thing. Which means the meta will always have a place for your least favorite OP cards.
Enduring Shield we were told there would be a fast revert if it proved to be problematic. Well, is it, and it has been a month+ at this point. Fix it Felix.
New god powers, oh god. Using a God Power or Hero power in Hearthstone, our clone brother (or is it sister, mhh) Which removes too much design space. Into this game. I'm looking at you, Neferu's Sacrifice.
"Changing Life Tap now might level the playing field going forward, but it means that years of underpowered card sets would be even weaker without the ability to quickly draw through a deck. Zoolock would have no reliable refill, and Handlock variants would no longer be able to quickly reach maximum hand size. If a change were to have been made, it would have been in the early days of Hearthstone, but it is still interesting to consider how the class might have been designed under a completely different ability. Also, these new GPs suffer from mostly the same with a different name. God's should have flavor in their GPs. Even the handful of standouts GPs aren't evenly distributed.
IMX
Immutable X will probably live on in other games and may be the backbone they need to be fun and profitable, but I doubt it. It's centralized nature makes it unlikely that the terms will always be favorable to game devs or to the players. Every GU card is essentially locked into IMX, since the gas fees to move to the L1 ETH Blockchain is so bad even whales shudder at them.
Last words
This game used to be fun to play, but the current forever meta of onslaught has made that simply untrue. Most weekends I have to force myself to play any games and quit before I even get to 25. The game on the edge of dying from self-inflicted wounds and is falling into a coma. A long, slow death for sure. But the things that could have made this game great and a true leader in the Blockchain game space. Have fallen flat at every turn.
