Chief Idiot: A 5-Minute Freewrite
A group of ten idiots wanted to cross the other side of the river but saw that the water was high and raging. Idiot 2 suggested using the small boat they saw tied up on a pole on the shore. However, Idiot 3 commented that the boat was too small for the ten of them.
"How about five of us ride the boat while we can tie the other five and drag them along while we row the boat?" Idiot 4 is suggested.
"Hey, why do you get to ride the boat?" Idiot 5 complained? "You suggested it, so you should be tied up and dragged along!"
And with that, the other idiots started arguing about who would be tied up and who would ride the boat. Everyone, aside from Idiot 1, the chief idiot
"Why do we need to ride the boat?" he asked. "Did you not see the hanging bridge over there?"
Upon looking where Idiot 1 was looking, the others saw a hanging bridge not too far away from the boat.
"Oh! You're such a genius!" Idiot 8 was praised after seeing the bridge. "Alright, let's use it!"
The group of idiots walked towards the hanging bridge and saw that it was quite old.
"Um, is this bridge safe?" asked Idiot 10 pensively after seeing how old the hanging bridge looked.
"What a scaredy cat you are," teased Idiot 7. "Hanging bridges are supposed to look old and scary!"
"I don't really understand what you meant by that, but it sounded smart," agreed Idiot 9.
"Alright! Let's cross the bridge and get this over with," shouted Idiot 1, the chief idiot.
With that shout, everything was decided, and the idiots started crossing the old hanging bridge one by one.
As they walked, the bridge started shaking and swaying and, before long, started to collapse under the combined weight of the ten people. The ten idiots plunged into the cold and raging water, seemingly to their doom.
Fortunately for them, several people who were fishing in the river saw them and quickly came to their rescue.
When the rescuer questioned them for their action and found out that the group of idiots decided to use the old hanging bridge at the same time, they couldn't help but face-palm. Some couldn't help but ask why they didn't try to cross the bridge one at a time or cross the river in a group of three using the small boat.
Once the group of idiots heard the suggestion, they were dumbfounded and asked themselves, "Why didn't we think of that?"
