Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ( 2024 ) - A journey through the ruins of a promising world.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the new production directed by Wes Ball, promised a continuation of the captivating story initiated in 2011 with "The Invasion". Unfortunately, the film abandons the elements that defined the series and turns into a generic story, devoid of substance and emotion.

  • A poorly outlined protagonist:

Noa, the protagonist monkey, is a shallow character, lacking depth and clear motivations. His journey reveals nothing about his wants or needs, making him a mere spectator walking through this post-Caesar world. His actions aren't based on any real conviction, and his lack of personality makes him an awkward vehicle to explore the story.

The world of "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" is artificially constructed, lacking the vibrant atmosphere and moral conflicts that characterized the previous films. The supporting characters are one-dimensional and don't contribute significantly to the narrative. The dialogues are trite and lack substance, the film lacks emotion and depth.

  • A generic and predictable story:

The plot of the film is easy to anticipate, lacking the surprises and tense moments that could have captivated the audience. The central conflict is superficial and lacks real stakes, and the resolution is predictable and unconvincing.

The only strong point of the film is the visual aspect. The special effects are well done, creating a believable world of apes and humans. The action scenes are decently choreographed, providing superficial entertainment.

"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" is a major disappointment for fans of the series. The film abandons the elements that defined the franchise and turns into a generic story, devoid of substance and emotion. The characters are shallow, the world is soulless, and the plot is predictable. Only the decent visual spectacle saves the film from being a total failure.

Just a final opinion

Fans of the Planet of the Apes series should avoid this movie. There are much better options out there to enjoy an engaging story and a well-built world. Those looking for a shallow popcorn movie with decent action scenes can find decent entertainment in "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes", but don't expect anything more.
