A Fisherman's Day Off
Happy weekend @asean.hive community today is hubby's day off. Yesterday I reminded him to buy me some bread before going home. But I was shocked he didn't bring me anything. He said that he'll make me something special, something we always eat when his still a fishermen. I was curious to know what it is. And my guess was right he'll make me "Yangit"
Yangit is a shorter process in making wrapped rice cake in banana leaves. These rice cake is famous in our country because it's made up of sticky rice, fresh coconut milk and salt. I know you're curious to know and I'm here to tell how to make a yummy snack that you'll surely love.
First hubby bought sticky rice and coconut milk in the market. In a large pan he combined 1 kilo of sticky rice and 2 fresh coconut milk. A pinch of salt and he mixed it throughly until the liquid subside. It's need to be in very low heat. Once the coconut milk already subside, transfer the sticky rice into a banana leaf.
In a large pan wrapped the sticky rice and cooked in a very low heat. Please do not add water. It's not called steaming either, you will cooked just it is. In the photo below it's been cooking for 20 mins I took the lead and I will reversed it to cooked the other side. And another 15-20 minutes and your done.
Hmm I didn't expect that hubby will burned it. We used a non stick pan it could be the reason. Before we used ordinary pans and the sticky rice; my husband didn't need to buy in the market. He harvest his own sticky rice, while the fresh coconut milk is always available at trees. But If you'll try this I can assure you its very delicious. Just dip in sugar and thats it.
After snack hubby and our son went out fishing. We didn't expect that they'll be able to catch a lot. I told him to take a lot of rest on his day off but he insist catching fish. On the photo you'll see that we are sergrating the ones that we could eat and the others we'll give to our ducks
Here's what we got; I know that you're familiar with this kind of shrimp. In our place we called these sugpo and it's the most expensive among it's relative. Its color and shape are different between the others.
While hubby is cooking me and @katsuki29 fillet the other fishes so we could make some daing. We'll marinate it with vinegar, garlic, salt and seasoning. We'll dried it in the sun so it shelf life will took longer. This how my husband spends his day off with us.
Thank you so much for reading

I never heard of Yangit but it looks interesting. I thought it was Biko but there is no Latik so yeah, it’s my first time to see this delicacy. You’re lucky with your thoughtful husband. Anyway, the seafood looks great too. I’m craving.
