Weekend Well Spent - Ibadan to Lagos by Train
It was an adventurous weekend for me. Not that huge but atleast something I can add to my 2022 impromptu checked list. The Nigeria Railway Commission, after a long renovation of its facilities, can be said to have the first double track standard guage rail in West Africa. This means the trains can travel both direction at will. All coaches having full air-condition and screens for entertainment.
I have been longing to use the train ever since i was a child. But the terrible facility the commission had back then was a red flag. After full renovation, I was enticed to try it out on a trip to lagos today. It was an awesome experience and I will recommend it for your comfort and time efficiency.
So, firstly I had to make enquiries before weekend to know the time of departure and the closeness of each terminals to my destination. There are some locations that are not cost efficient and time effective if you use the train. So, my destination was Ago Palace and there was a close-by terminal there at Ebute Meta.
It is important to wear a face mask, and have an identification card – passport, national ID, work ID, or voters’ card – it is also compulsory to buy a ticket at the counter.
I arrived the train station by 7:15am, I proceeded to buy the ticket, which cost #2600 for Business class. I moved in to the waiting lounge where we waited for the train to arrive for onboarding. It was a full blasting Huge Air-conditioning machine. Everyone was freezing literally. The train set out by 8:30am.
No exaggerations, the journey was smooth and "gallop-less". I am this kind of person that would need to seat somewhere I can stretch my legs, and I would say the seats were quite spacious and comfortable and had a place to charge just by the side.
One thing i didn't like about everything was the convenience room. No running water.
I alighted at the Ebute Meta Terminal exactly 10:15am and had to find my way to where I was going. It was annoying to eventually enter this terrible transport buses again.
Summarily, it will go a long way to ease internal commuting if government could consider trying to build intra city train stations.
How's your weekend going so far?

Interesting, never been in a train before, maybe ill try it out soon.
You'd enjoy it. Pls do
Thank you.
I grew up close a train station.
Almost had to see or hear one every day lol.
Enter quite a lot of times too.
Maybe that's why it doesn't really tickle me.
Oh that's maybe
I will really want to enter one.
But is there any close to you?
There is one at Delta but it's like a 3-4 hour journey, and I barely ever travel due to motion sickness.
This is similar to the Abuja-Kaduna trains. I really love how convenient it is.
Honestly. Very convenient. I just wish they can operate intra cities
Did you say no running water. That's Naija for for you..
I ve never been successful meeting the train schedules from Ib. My convinience is more with the roads. But hopeful soon I ll wake up early and get there earlier. Well thanks to my riders, they either miss the road to the station or flaunt some rules that delays us.
Sorry you had to jet back to the reality of Lagos bro. 😅😅
Ewwweee 😆. Miss the road?
May we not be used to suffering bro. It's well.
Thanks.
Amen.. really.
Wow amazing i don't know there's a train way at ebute metta. It cool though
I bet you. Very cool. Try it out
