Dear #Hives, Today is celebrating the Software Freedom Day (SFD) an annual worldwide celebration of Free Software. It is a day to share and educate others about the principles that govern Free Software, the freedom that its use confers on us, and the possibilities that it offers us as human beings.

I briefly remind you of the 4 freedoms that free software gives you: Free to use, Free to study, Free to distribute, Free to modify, and Free to access.

How can you see the 4 free software freedoms in Hive?

  1. Free to use: Every user that has Internet access can interact with many frontends that allow the contents of the Hive blockchain, but not also, you can get the source and run it by yourself.
  2. Free to distribute: the Hive core, its API, and some frontends can be used by everyone.
  3. Free to modify: If you wish, you can make a fork of the entire blockchain, and adapts the sources to your needs and use case. See openhive-network
  4. Free to access: All the contents of the Hive blockchain, the source code and many of its applications are availing without any restriction to any kind of user.
