I was taking the baby for a walk with the stroller today, and at some point I saw something on the ground that looked like a 2 euro coin...

My first thought was "luckyyyyyyy"! Daddy found some free money, woohoooooo 🤑🤑🤑

I go closer, pick it up and notice it's something different!

Dang! A Turkish coin? "Dang, unlucky", my first thought, after all we hear again and again how their economy goes to the shitter for years now.

I figured I was holding something worth of 10 euro cents or something. Thought to hold it as a memento, after all it's been decades since I had any Turkish currency in my hands! Last time I had been there was five years ago when I visited Istanbul, and euro was unofficially accepted literally everywhere so I never had to trade currencies 🤣

Anyways. I head back home. Put the baby back to sleep and Google how much my new coin is in Euro....

Turns out I actually was lucky! This coin is worth 2.75 euros. Not bad! Way way more than I expected Not that I plan to sell it or something, but it felt good :)

In case you wonder, the old dude in the front is Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, one of the most important leaders of modern Turkey. Largely loved by them (I think) and hated by many Greeks cause history and stuff:

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,[a] or Mustafa Kemal Pasha until 1921, and Ghazi Mustafa Kemal[c] from 1921 until 1934 was a Turkish field marshal, revolutionary statesman, author, and the founding father of the Republic of Turkey, serving as its first president from 1923 until his death in 1938. He undertook sweeping progressive reforms, which modernized Turkey into a secular, industrializing nation. Ideologically a secularist and nationalist, his policies and socio-political theories became known as Kemalism. Due to his military and political accomplishments, Atatürk is regarded as one of the most important political leaders of the 20th century. source and more info

Anyways. Lucky find ! :)

My first thought would be to pass it in some kiosk/minimarket undetected 😂. You did a better job as it seems

2.7 euros, hahaha not many people walk up to free money on the road. With everything you're accumulating, I'm forced to ask when you'll airdrop one of the coins to your faithful friends hahahaha

2.75 euros is really not bad for the coin.

That is lucky; I had some good luck today too.
Usually when I have to go to my head office, I get a nice hotel room. It's fine, but just a hotel room. That hotel closed for renovations and I got allocated to a super apartment hotel. Space is 65 square metres - full kitchen and laundry included. (Ok, for 1 night, it's overkill). But the best part - $30 breakfast budget. I'm off to eat like a King! Looks like we're both winning on different sides of the world.

I used to check out the CoinStar coin sorting machines in my neck of the woods, I most often find Asian coins and tokens since there is a large Asian community nearby. The machine is long gone since that supermarket closed it's doors. There are a few left in the area but a bit of a pain to go out of my way for. Congrats on your find. @trumpman

You are wrong. It is worth about 0.03 Euro now. This shows how our economy has collapsed in recent years.

EUR 2.75 for TRY 0.50 is a good deal, more so when it's found money. Keep on the lookout for gems like that, you may end up with some silver along the way.

A lucky coin that surely has brightened the day. Simple things usually make us happy and if it is something also that we are passionate about, that's so much better.

It's still a cool thing to find, even if not worth much, but hey, so much the better! Thanks for sharing your good fortune! I've never seen a Turkish coin before now. 🙌

Well you might end up turning to another coin yourself, or foodstuff.
Pick a 2.5 cent coin and turn into yam worth 10 pounds.
Now it's the ritualist's, turn to scream lucky😂
