The Electric Cable Car and The Biker [Urban Photography Contest - Week 2]

avatar
(Edited)

This shot was captured almost 10 years ago, in front of the United States Post Office building in San Francisco.

I'm submitting this picture to the Urban Photography Contest - Week 2 hosted by @manoldonchev.

I like this photo a lot because San Francisco is a city with a lot of traffic, with individual cars and taxis cruising around all the time but, despite that, I managed to capture a shot at Market Street where only two alternative methods of transportation are visible...

We have a really cute electric cable car, transporting people to their destination... and a girl on a bike, who was quite relaxed, riding while listening to music. 🎼

The day was clear and sunny and, at this particular moment, San Francisco almost seemed like a quiet little town, instead of the huge city center that usually is. 😉

Wouldn't it be cool if this were the norm?

As you can see on the next photo, just a fraction of seconds earlier, there were 3 cars visible in the picture. I had to time the shot really well, allowing the cab to move ahead while still capturing the electric cable car and the biker at a good spot! 😊

I invite you to participate in the contest, too. Here's the announcement post: Urban Photography Contest - Week 2.

So you still have a lot of photos of yours you took a decade ago?🤔. That's impressive.
I'm sure they must have relocated this post office to somewhere else.

According to Google Maps, it's still there! 😃

Yep, I have plenty of old photos. My collection goes back to 2008 or something like that. 😄

10 years ago, then you have time in the trade of photography, that's why you are very good at it my friend.
Indeed, it seems a very quiet city, I only know it from films, but what they always show is a lot of traffic congestion.
Pretty clear skies.
Very good pictures.

It saddens me to the core that my city disposed the cable cars way back in the past. The alternative? They cramped the space with noisy buses and narrowed the once wide streets.

I lived in SF in the late 90s and was a bicycle messenger. That's an interesting shot. Those tram tracks are very dangerous on a wet day hehe. That's a nice shot.
