Living By the Romantic Lake Talkša, in Šiauliai (Lithuania)

(Edited)

The town of Šiauliai, in Lithuania is a very nice place to live in. Like most big cities, the main part of the town is a bit of a concrete jungle.

However, there's a part of the town where you don't see any concrete apartment blocks at all, only cute little houses such as this one... some are built of wood, others use more modern materials, since their owners have read the Three Little Pigs fable.

A few meters away, you have the beautiful lake Talkša, where the locals come regularly - to take a stroll and spend some quality time among friends and family. Sometimes they just sit on the grass and have a picnic.

By the lake shore, you'll see a few more colourful and lovely houses, packed together in a setup which makes us feel like we're in the countryside. The noises of the city aren't heard here, you can only listen to the nature around you.

Reaching the lake Talkša from the center of Šiauliai is quite easy. Just head on foot to the Sundial Square, where you'll find this monument, marking the 750th anniversary of the city's existence.

The sculpture is called "the Golden Boy" by the locals. Drawn on the ground, there's a sundial clock unifying the three symbols of Šiauliai:

  • the Sun - representing the Battle of the Sun that took place on the city grounds;
  • the Archer - that the city's name derives from;
  • the Time - that has passed since the name of the city was mentioned for the first time (in 1236). It is the highest sundial in Lithuania.

Once you're here, take the path to the left and walk a few meters until you see the lake approaching...

By the lake, there are several trails and paths for walking, jogging, riding a bike or having some fun using skates and roller-blades. Some are made of smooth, concrete pavement, others are rough dirt tracks. In the Summer, there are several activities available, such as zip-lining, water skiing, fishing...

Another landmark is situated right next to the water, a giant fox. The locals were pretty fond of this sculpture. It's called the Iron Fox and it should be pretty obvious why. I love how the statue reflects the colours around her, which will give different aspects to it, depending on the weather and the time of year.

This huge sculpture is the work of the designer Vilius Puronas and it was made to commemorate the thousand-year anniversary of the first mention of the name of Lithuania.

The Iron Fox is 25 meters long, 6.5 meters high and weights 7 tons. The fox has a "heart" with a built-in time capsule for future generations.

Info Source: VanDerKrogt.net

There is a story circulating around, claiming that this statue simply popped up one day, without no one in the town knowing it was being installed, though I find that very hard to believe because one doesn't simply set up a giant statue weighting 7 tons, without no one being aware of it.

As you can see, there are a few benches strategically located right by the Iron Fox. This has become one of the favourite spots for lovers to hang out with each other.

What a romantic place to live in, eh?

That's unique ... the fox is from the future and it wears shoes.. right? What a wonderful place to enjoy day. Are you on vacation @trincowski... no flowers around the lake?

No, there weren't much flowers, the area was mostly natural, without artificial embellishments.

I'm not on vacation right now. These photos were taken a few years back.

Thanks for your visit, @cicisaja. 😉

That fox is awsome! Even there aren't much flowers, it still looks green. A good place to go for a walk I should think .

Thank you for the suggestion. I know the tag but there was no space for more tags, as I was using eSteem, which still has the 5 tag limit in play. 🙃

ya, try steempeak to post. ten tag limit. its worth the switch to reach a broader audience, plus more token payout.

That looks to be a great place to stay for. The photos and the geographical features looks really nice.. The villa like homes on the side of the lake is really tempting that looks like one I have a dream for, atleast as a guest house.

Thanks for this post.

What a gorgeous place and it looks so relaxing. The fox looks quite intimidating! I am loving all the green here.

Also letting you know you can edit any post in steempeak to add more tags. This is what I have been doing when I use other front ends to post.

Thanks!

I know but I don't like to do that. Once I upload a post, if I need to edit it, I use the same interface.

Oh! Is there a reason not to use two interfaces? I was given this advice by someone, but maybe it is not good.

For the same post? You can do it but I don't think it's fair to post via one interface and then edit through other interface.

But that's just my opinion.

Hmm... Which one would you be being unfair to? I just want to gt all these crazy new tags in there.

You know that these Tribes tags will only be active if you post with them, right? If you edit the post later to add them, it won't work.

I use palnet, creativecoin, marlians, neoxian and a few others. I get votes from all, add them after posting often, (usually right after posting) and do not use any of their interfaces.

It never worked for me, so I stopped trying.

I'm catching up on replies now. I have been watching this since we were talking. I am most definitely getting the votes no matter where I post from. It does not seem to matter if the tag is there when I first publish.

Interesting... but I don't think that's very far for the developers, as the information about the dapp you posted originally is being replaced by another one. In fact, if you do that, eSteem won't give you an upvote. 😉

What a great tour of Šiauliai! I've been there many times (my sister lives there), but have not seen this beautiful fox - I'll definitely visit it during my next visit to Šiauliai, which a really very lovely city :)

Wow! How's that even possible? Your sister is lucky, she selected a nice place to live in.

She studied in Šiauliai and eventually decided to stay and live there :) A similar situation happened to me, only I live on the opposite side of Lithuania and at a much longer distance from my native home town ;)

I see. How do you like it, in Lithuania? Can you speak the language by now?

I like everything here because I am Lithuanian and my native language is Lithuanian. I was born in the western part of Lithuania (Samogitia or Žemaitija (the Lowland)) but now I live in the eastern part of Lithuania (Aukštaitija (the Highland)). :)
