Sophie and Kelvin had been dating for about a year. They really loved each other. Although Kelvin hadn't proposed yet, Sophie knew Kelvin had intentions of marrying her soon, and she was excited about that.

One beautiful Monday, Sophie left for work as usual. As she drove into the company's vicinity to try and park her car, someone else almost hit her car. The individual was trying to park his car, and in the process almost hit Sophie's car.

"Hey watch it, don't you know how to drive?" Sophie shouted at the man.

"You watch it, can't you see I'm trying to park here?" The man replied.

This sparked a heated exchange of words between both of them until the security personnel on duty intervened.

Sophie quickly rushed into the building knowing she was really late, and her boss would scold her. By noon, Sophie got into the elevator to get some files from one of the staff. As the elevator was about closing to move, someone walked in. It was the guy she had the incident with in the morning.

"You again. Of all the people to share an elevator with, it just had to be you", Sophie said in frustration.

"Look, I'm sorry about what happened earlier. I wasn't in the right state of mind." The man replied.

"Oh please, save your apology. I got into trouble with my boss today because I came late, thanks to you" Sophie said.

"I'm really sorry about that. I wish I can make it up to you", he said.

Sophie didn't say anything more to him. She just stood there, waiting for the elevator to get to her destination.

"Since you're not saying anything, can you at least tell me your name, please. I'm new here, and I don't know anyone" he said.

After some seconds of silence, Sophie replied,

"I'm Sophie. I work in the IT department. What about you?"

"I'm Terry. I work in the Marketing department.

The elevator stopped and they both got out. Just as they were about to go their separate ways, Terry turned and said.

"We didn't meet in the best of circumstances. Can we forget about what happened in the morning and have a do-over ?"

"Yes, we can" Sophie said, deciding to let all the grudges go.

"Nice meeting you Sophia. I must say, you're the prettiest lady in this building" Terry said as he walked away.

Sophie couldn't help but let out a smile.

Later that day, as Sophie finished from work, she drove to Kelvin's place, and they spent some time together before she went home.

The next day at work, Sophie watched as Terry walked into the building, and she realized he was very handsome and good-looking. She was in awe. Their eyes eventually met, and Terry winked at her. Her heart began beating fast.

"What's happening to me?" she wondered.

Later that day, when Sophie was about to leave the vicinity after the day's work, her car refused to start. She tried many times to put it on but to not avail. It was getting dark and Sophie was worried about how she would get home. Terry stopped by as he saw what was going on.

"It seems you're having car troubles. I'll give you a lift home, on the condition that you'll have dinner with me"

"Hahaha, okay then. Let's go" Sophie said.

They went to a restaurant, and they got to know more about themselves. They bonded more. Sophie realized what an amazing guy Terry was. As Terry drove her home, he made her laugh. She had never been this happy in a while.

That was the beginning of a blissful friendship. They hung out more, they talked often. Sophie found herself lying to Kelvin. Whenever she was with Kelvin and Terry called, she wouldn't pick up, or she would go out to pick up. Whenever Kelvin asked who it was, she would just say it was her boss. As time went on, she began canceling plans with Kelvin just to spend time with Terry.

One day, while Sophie visited Terry at his place, they kissed. Sophie knew it was wrong, so she stood up to leave. Terry pleaded with her to stay back. He confessed his love for her. He's been in love with her for a while now. Sophie knew she was in love with Terry too, but she had been denying it all the while.

"We shouldn't be doing this. I'm in a very serious relationship. I can't do this to Kelvin" Sophie said.

"I know you're in a relationship, but I really love you and I want you to be mine. I know it sounds selfish, but that's how much I want to be with you." said Terry.

They began a secret affair. They did their best to keep it secret. However, Kelvin saw the signs that something was up with Sophie. She was acting shady and told more lies.

One night, when Sophie was sure Kelvin had traveled for a business trip, she and Terry planned a date at a bar. While she and Terry danced to the slow music being played, they kissed. All of a sudden, Sophie was in shock.

She saw Kelvin sitting on a chair across, in tears, watching them. Sophie and Terry were surprised. How did he find them ? He wasn't supposed to be around.

"How long has this been going on?" Kelvin asked.

Sophie couldn't find words to say.

"Answer me!" Kelvin said angrily.

All Sophie could say as tears rolled down her cheeks was "I'm sorry".

"I was going to marry you. You were the love of my life. How could you do this to me?" Kelvin said. He was devastated.

Kelvin went home. He wished it was some bad dream. Sophie cried. She didn't want to hurt Kelvin this way. She had never seen him that way before. It was obvious the relationship was over.

Two weeks later, Sophie got a text from Kelvin, after a series of unreplied texts she left for him. It read:

"I don't think I want to see you ever again. I want to get past this hurt, and severing all ties with you is the best way to do that. Have a nice life".

Sophie was heartbroken, she brought this on herself, and she was sad she had lost a good man like Kelvin.
