Traveling the World #212 - Urunga Lagoon & Boardwalk @ Urunga Lagoon, Australia
Hi Everyone,
Located around 30 minutes away from Coffs Harbour, we found a beautiful lagoon called Urunga Lagoon. It was recommended by locals to go and have a nice walk down Boardwalk and if we have extra time even a quick swim, fishing or discover some birds around the area. Depending the time you arrive, you might catch it low tides to see the lagoon with birds trying to catch a dip while if you arrived during high tide, perfect time to go for a quick swim.
When we arrived, there were plenty of parking available as it was late afternoon. We did bring a towel each just in case we do go in for a dip but first we want to check out the 1km long boardwalk. We just wore thongs on the day as the walk was very easy and the planks were very stable. The walk runs along the lagoon where you can also see some of Kalang River closer by. A 1km walk does get pretty tiring so there are some spots with benches you can sit down for a rest and enjoy the beautiful views.
As we were walking through, we saw lots of different fish in the clear crystal water. The best part is there is a swimming block/platform there for those who wants a quick dip which I forgot to take a picture of. There are change rooms and picnic facilities for those who want to spend the day there and the best part, all this is free of charge. I would imagine it does get very busy during the school holiday so the best time is to avoid those busy times. The walk would be a bit crowded if there are too many people as it is a bit narrow but it was just perfect when we visited.
