From Eggs to Flight: Upgrading my incubator
Hi, my dear friends!
I don’t know what kind of eclipse visited my mind that I decided to hatch chicks in an incubator. Needless to say, in principle, I do not breed poultry and those birds that live with me have the status of pets.
Nevertheless, from time to time I find myself in strange Facebook groups like "Chickens are our hobby" and I understand that for some reason I ordered hatching eggs ....🫣
My winter attempt at egg incubation failed miserably due to a blackout. Of course, it was already an absolute adventure in such conditions. But I have since purchased an incubator that has battery backup. So a week ago I put 30 pheasant eggs in there. In addition, my Chinese silk hens began to lay and I also put their eggs in the incubator. In the end, two of my friends dream of such chickens and I can easily find a family for chicks.
But incubation is not so easy. In addition to maintaining a certain temperature and humidity, eggs need to be turned several times a day. But my incubator was without the necessary mechanism and I did it manually. But for this, I have to open the incubator, and this violates the temperature regime. Well, ok, I said and ordered a special mechanism for my incubator. Today I received it in the mail, brought it home, opened it and froze: it was all in pieces! a do-it-yourself kit!
I hate reading instructions! But here I simply had no options .... Having spent about 40 minutes, I collected everything ... except for connecting to the battery ... as for electricity, I don’t know anything at all ...
But even so, I solved half the problem, because now I do not need to turn over each egg, they all turn over together, being in special cells. So far I'm doing it manually but I'm not losing hope that I can find someone who can connect auto-flip.
Wow, it's not easy to incubate eggs, it's a lot of work, I wish you luck and that you get all your chicks 🐣😊
Thank you! I hope for success))
Amiga you have patience for that, but it's a good time pass.
