WORLD SIGHT DAY
World Sight Day – October 13, 2022
International
World Sight Day is observed every year on the second Thursday of October, falling on October 13 this year. It was initiated by the Lions Clubs International Foundation during their ‘SightFirstCampaign’ to spread awareness about preventable blindness and help people who are visually impaired.
The human eye is not just a window through which we see things but a window to know about other health challenges that may have not yet manifested. There are a lot of diseases that can be diagnosed such as consulting an eye care specialist for a simple eye exam. Some systemic Diseases such as Hiv, Diabetes, Hypertension, Hypotension, anemia, and even Leukemia can be diagnosed first from a simple eye examination.
As an Optometrist world sight day means a day to remind the world about how valuable getting an eye ex is even if you don't have any eye defect because, without a comprehensive eye exam, most symptoms are sometimes hidden from the affected person until it becomes worse.
Glaucoma is one of those eye diseases that the individual won't have many noticeable defects in their field of vision till it becomes worse, which makes it one of the deadliest diseases that steal vision and has the nickname "silent thief of sight" characterized by noticed tunnel vision and pain when it gets worse. The most deadly part about Glaucoma is that it has no cure but an early diagnosis and proper care would prevent an increase in its progression.
So what are you waiting for? Go and get your eyes tested.
° If you are someone that used the computer a lot then you need a comprehensive eye exam,
° if you are an office worker that always stays in a confined environment you need an eye test as well,
° if you work a lot in the sun then you also need an eye test
° Are you a student that usually read a lot. You need an eye test too.
° The best way to find a soulmate too is by getting your eyes tested.
° if you don't do anything too then you need to get your eyes tested
I can't overemphasize how important your eyes are to you but all I can tell you is that no matter what you do, you need an eye test because some eye defects such as retinitis pigmentosa, glaucoma, strabismus, amblyopia, achromatopsia are hereditary and you can inherit them from your parents. The only way to find out you didn't inherit any eye defect is to get your eyes tested.
