Los Años que Comen

Cuando estamos pequeños siempre nos llega a la mente esa idea tonta de que crecer es lo mejor del mundo, creemos que por ser adultos no tendremos que darle cuentas a nadie ni pedirle opiniones a nadie.

Es duro cuando a medida que pasan los años te sientes con la sensación de que no es un año más, sino un año menos, te pones a pensar en lo que podías y hacías cuando eras aquel niño ingenuo que solo le preocupaba pensar en que jugar al día siguiente en verano.

Entonces miras a los lados y ves que te faltan amigos y familia, ya no existen aquellas reuniones donde visitábamos a la abuela, ni aquellas fiestas donde los tíos bromeaban sin cesar, en lugar de ello estas tú, con tu pareja, tus hijos tratando de ser quizás ese tío o ese padre que fueron contigo.

Ya no tienes esa agilidad de trepar muros y árboles, de correr sin cansarte tan rápido y las noches se vuelven exclusivamente para poder recargar las energías que perdiste durante el día, solo sientes que los años te están consumiendo.

Pero…

Volvemos a ver a un lado, y vemos a nuestra pareja, a nuestros hijos correteando y jugando con la mirada llena de ilusión y de amor, la inocencia de saber que solo con estar al lado de papa y mama todo estará bien, y todas las energías que pensabas que te faltaban vuelven.

Extrañas el pasado, pero te aferras a buscarle un futuro a tus hijos, y que al igual que tu lo hiciste, ellos puedan disfrutar plenamente de su juventud y que su única preocupación sea, “que voy a jugar mañana”.

The Years They Eat

When we are little we always get the silly idea that growing up is the best thing in the world, we believe that because we are adults we will not have to answer to anyone or ask for anyone's opinion.

It is hard when as the years go by you feel that it is not one year more, but one year less, you start to think about what you could and did when you were that naive child who only cared about thinking about what to play the next day in summer.

Then you look around and you see that you lack friends and family, there are no longer those gatherings where we visited grandma, nor those parties where the uncles joked incessantly, instead there is you, with your partner, your children trying to be maybe that uncle or that father who were with you.

You no longer have that agility to climb walls and trees, to run without getting tired so fast and the nights become exclusively to be able to recharge the energies you lost during the day, you just feel that the years are consuming you.

But...

We look to the side again, and we see our partner, our children running and playing with a look full of illusion and love, the innocence of knowing that just by being next to mom and dad everything will be fine, and all the energy you thought you were missing comes back.

You miss the past, but you cling to look for a future for your children, and that just like you did, they can fully enjoy their youth and that their only concern is, "what am I going to play tomorrow".
