Spellbook-Only Challenge: Day 21 - Report #3
As a Splinterlands player I try to use the whole HIVE ecosystem to my advantage. I can convert any tokens I gain using HIVE into DEC and thus using HIVE fits into a larger strategy for advancing in Splinterlands.
But with the change eliminating DEC rewards for Bronze III players, I became curious how difficult it would be to advance in Splinterlands using a spellbook alone. I decided to start an alt account to find out. Thus my spellbook-only challenge was born. My goal is to not bring any more funds into this account beyond the spellbook purchase. So, no tokens from blogging. No buying credits for expansion packs. The only way the account can add funds is by selling/swapping/renting out game assets that were gained by playing the game.
On day 15 of my challenge I reported that the rental my my Verari Wavesmith card was going well, and that with the funds from the rental I hoped to be able to rent my way into the Bronze-II league before the end of the season.
Now on day 21 of my challange, I can report that I was indeed able to rent my way to 1000+ collection power and finished the season in Bronze II.
On Thanksgiving evening, with the TV replaying a favorite movie for the family, I stalked the market rentals section of the Splinterlands sight. Thanks to this handy post I was able to know the DEC burn value (which is to say cards’ collection power) by simply looking at card images. So, I could also decide how much I wanted to pay per power point. That made getting the price I wanted easier for sure.
Naturally, I got a lot of “card already sold” messages along the way. Which probably means that someone else beat me to the punch. But I was also able to rent six epic-rarity cards with a total collection power of 1100 for 1.3 DEC per day. That's 830 power points per DEC. I think I got some incredible steals. Shhhhhhh. Please, don’t tell anyone.
Since I entered Bronze-II my reward card luck has been good, better than the higher league explains. Including one from my season’s rewards, I have pulled 4 common cards since my last report bringing my owned collection power to 35. The cards I pulled this reporting period were…
- 1 Venari Heatsmith
- 1 Pelacor Deceiver
- 2 Gargoya Lion
For now I am just playing the game. I hope during this season to accumulate enough DEC to rent my way into Bronze I before the season ends.
Thanks for stopping by. I will report further progress as soon as it’s appropriate. If you are interested in following my along, I will add the #tpbjustplay tag to any posts I make in regards to this challenge.
