Custom Made Wooden Coaster No1 With Faber Castell Metallic Markers
Wooden coasters
I bought a set of wooden coasters ages ago to paint them. I did some dotting in the beginning when I bought them and then they ended up in the crafting closet without me touching them. With fewer items left to be creative with recently, I decided I'd give them a black gesso coating and use my metallic markers to decorate them for fun. Some zen doodling time and maybe if they turn out nicely, I can give them a coating in Spain and use them even. They aren't heavy anyway so I can easily take them if I love how they turn out. I'm not going to pressure myself to create 6 identical ones or finish them before we leave, but just when I feel like being creative I can try to decorate one.
The Process
I always try to take pictures of the process when I create something artsy, this time that was no different. I first covered the coaster in black gesso and let that dry overnight before using the metallic markers because I obviously wanted to make sure not to ruin them with black gesso. Most pictures have been taken during the evening so pardon the shittier light in these pictures.
Almost done:
I love how colorful it turned out.
One last picture during the day:
I love it and I wish I could cover it with coating but I can't as I don't have it anymore. I do think I will take this one with us to Spain as well as the others I covered with black gesso, so I can be a little creative over there and create our very own custom-made coaster set.
I used Faber Castel metallic markers for this project and I can highly recommend these, they are not cheap but worth the money.

Oh, this is NICE! You will never want for petty cash or things to trade with this skill -- who would not want a coaster like this in a sunny, warm climate!

Beautiful, it reminds me of mazes I used to make when I was little.
That's beautiful! Do you plan to seal it or is it purely for decorative purpose?
Thank you! I will seal it and use it but it will be done in Spain because I don't have any coating left here. The others will be a different design probably but I hope all matching as a set :)
Do you use resin? It seems to be the choice but I haven't tried that yet, so all my coasters are still sitting in my box
I never used that, but it's defo an option to consider, thanks for that tip!
I will sort that out in a few weeks at the earliest, maybe even when we actually sign a contract for our own rental instead of the temporary ones. But I don't want to throw this one out, I like it too much haha.
What kind of coasters did you create? Painted or markers? Pictures? :) or a post maybe lol?
It is a beautiful coaster. I am glad you are taking it with you. Thanks for sharing.
