My nostalgic 2021 - A bit of my history with photography | Photography Lovers End of Year Contest!

This was a really incredible year for me. A lot of events happened to me that gave me very bad moments, but at the same time taught me a lot about life. But also at the end of the year I managed to achieve one of my goals for many years: I managed to leave the country.

But this post is not for that, it's to show you my terrible photography skills, so here is my perfect collection :)

La Asuncion - July

It was here that I decided to devote considerable time to photography. I really thank @derangedvisions for teaching me many things and being patient enough with me despite being so useless. To this day I don't even consider that I'm close to taking photos as amazing as him, he's in another league but I'm sure I'll soon catch up :P

La Asuncion - August

After having photographed food to the max, I decided to try other things from other perspectives. It's amazing how photography can make a simple streetlight from a third world country look like a work of art, something like a London streetlight. (That's one of the reasons I love to take pics and edit them)

My humble home - August

I was always practicing with anything I had around that seemed like I could make it look cool. Something so trivial like a flower, a photo, a little editing here and there, and voila. That's all it takes to make, in my opinion, the photo look great.

I learned that practically anything can be a good idea to photograph. You have to find a good angle, try to cover as much of the object you want to capture as you can, and that's it. (And yeah, I know that in the white flower I captured the ends of some petals are not visible, but that doesn't take away from the essence of the photo).

Pampatar - August

As someone who had never been out of the country before, I managed to make every place I visited look as good as possible. I didn't expect the photos I took of the Costazul mall to look so great after editing, although by this point I started to think more about the results of the photo once edited and didn't just go by how it looked before I edited it. (If I had gone by that, I'm pretty sure I would have deleted a lot of photos).

Pampatar - October

This photo was quite a bit later because my previous phone was stolen and I lost my motivation to take pictures because I lost dozens of pics that I had never posted. But little by little I was regaining confidence and every now and then I would take a picture when I felt comfortable, this one was in a mall called "Sambil", basically it's a chain of national malls throughout Venezuela (Like Walmart I guess).

La Asuncion - December

image.png

This was one of my last photos in my home country and, truth be told, definitely one of the photos that are most important to me. That was the last day I went out with very important friends for me, in fact, it was my last day where I saw @rishahp and @nicxi in person. That's why this photo is very important to me. We were in La Asunción square for hours and I couldn't help but take some pictures of the magical decorations they made. I'm very happy to have taken this amazing memory of my last moments in my country, I hope to come back soon to meet again with my close friends and family (or maybe they will come to where I live now, nobody knows).

In an airplane(? - December

It's not the best photo, but I certainly must add it here for the sentimental value it has for me. Leaving your home country along with all the relationships, friendships, family and so on is not something I am used to. It was when I left that I learned the full weight of what was really happening, but that didn't stop me from following my dreams and I am more than happy to have made this decision. (Nah, I'm lying, its just bc it was my first flight XD).

Bogotá - December

image.png

First of all, that is indeed not me. It's my cousin who I told to take a picture of him since we were taking family photos. I found some rather beautiful decorations in a house and thought "Bruh, this is the perfect place for some photos". This is my favorite photo of all, I didn't think it would look so brutal haha. His jacket that is fully lit up is not editing or anything similar, it's a reflective light jacket, so when you take pictures of it, it shows up with all that glow (pretty cool effect in my opinion).

And that's it! I would really like to take pictures of the streets of Bogota, but I haven't really gone around there with my phone taking pictures because I'm not 100% sure what the insecurity is like here, but so far everything seems really perfect and I really like the ambiance. Despite all the events that made me stay away from photography a little bit, lately I've been feeling more motivated and eager to keep learning.

So if you made it this far, thank you very much for reading all this. I hope you liked the pictures!
